Description: Chartres House is a local favorite—a French Quarter landmark serving casual dishes and classic drinks in an intimate, historical environment. This antebellum building, once a favorite haunt of Tennessee Williams, is now home to a menu featuring duck quesadillas, classic New Orleans BBQ shrimp, muffalettas and more. Dine on the balcony or in the intimate courtyard, or join the local crowd after hours for quick bites and cocktails.

We chose to dine here as we wished to experience eating outdoors overlooking the intersection of Toulouse and Chartres Streets and we were happy we waited to be seated outside to dine and watch the happenings on the street below. One waitress served the diners which were seated in small tables for 2 along the 2 sides of the corner restaurant. Larger parties would be seated inside downstairs. Waitress was accommodating and helpful, and the food was okay. The crawfish bread was somewhat disappointing because of the way it was served - on cut slices of toasted bread topped with a crawfish spread that was not overly cheesy. Would have preferred it served the traditional way encased inside the bread so that it would remain hot. The crawfish pasta estrellita was tasty and good.

The food is typical new orleans-style food it's good but the balcony eating and watching the people go by is what makes the whole experience worthwhile. The service was adequate drinks were okay.

Overpriced. Blech. Two words to describe this restaurant. Anyone giving it a 5 star or positive review either doesn’t know restaurants or has some connection to this one, in my opinion. I just can’t imagine anyone genuinely liking it.

Our drinks were overpriced and contained little alcohol, or so it seemed. My salad was “awful.” My wife’s fish was swimming in butter. We should have known when we saw the old menus and they appeared to be tattered, beaten and torn. It seemed to be a sign of the place being quaint and historic but we read to much into it: it was a sign of a place that gets tons of business from walk-bys and doesn’t need to follow through.

Overpriced. Blech.

the charters house burger is so good and even better cold. Service was great and it was nice sitting in the dining room away from the bar.

How can I best describe it? Slow kitchen, indifferent staff, overpriced menu. You are paying for its corner location in the French Quarter. The food was decent when it finally arrived. (The bar service was slow as well.) The pictures look great on the internet, but do not be fooled. Do not be fooled either by the sign there about balcony dining during lunch, everyone was turned away when they enquired about it. One more note, the hostess was intoxicated. She continually refueled from beneath her station, libations (received from the bar). When this was brought to the attention of our waiter, he was indifferent. This exemplifies poor customer service and poor judgement.
