Description: Cochon captures the true essence of Cajun and Southern cooking. Chefs Donald Link and Stephen Stryjewski bring their love for southern Louisiana foods to every plate at Cochon. Donald's experience cooking with his family at their homes in Crowley and Rayne allow guests to share in his passion for real country and home cooking. The food is focused and simple, featuring roasted meats with natural sauces, homemade sausages, and fresh local seafood. The menu compliments the rustic, yet contemporary setting of the dining room. The Bar at Cochon features signature cocktails as well as the classic libations of New Orleans. A diverse beer selection with an emphasis on local micro-brews offers a cool contrast with the sometimes spicy cuisine.

First night we had Cubano and cold roast beef. Liked it so much, went back on last night - we had Muffaletta and, yes, cold roast beef again. Highly recommend.

We were in NOLA this past August. On our last visit, we had wanted to go here and just ran out of time. This year, after reading about it again all year, we made it. Wow! This place is wonderful. My wife and I got sandwiches for lunch and loved it. I highly recommend the Gambino - and we're from New York. It was simply one of the best sandwiches I have ever eaten. The meats were perfect in every way and everything in the sandwich complimented everything else. Even the proportions were just right. My wife ordered a BLT and loved it too. Everyone was very nice and the service was great. It is a very cool place and if it wasn't lunch time, we would definitely have cozied up to the bar and hung out. My only complaint is that there isn't a Cochon Butcher where we live. We will definitely eat there again on our next visit. The dinners sound ridiculous. So, we may have to go for lunch and dinner next time.

The most amazing wood fired oysters, I ordered two plates! Fried alligator good, nice atmosphere. Good beer and wine selection. Excellent service. Note- you can't split bill, or use more than 3 credit cards, little harder if you have a big group.

Stopped here for a late lunch on a Friday afternoon. When we arrived the place was maybe 25% occupied, so was seated fairly quickly. Ordered a bowl of the gumbo, followed by the rabbit and dumplings, and finished with a slice of grasshopper pie. The smallish bowl of gumbo lacked body (not enough okra for thickening?) and was overly salty, but otherwise passable. The rabbit and dumplings, also smallish with little meat, was also very runny, more like a soup than anything else (they even served with a spoon), and again way too salty. The dumplings were of the bisquick variety rather than the rolled noodle variety, okay we suppose but rather doughy (not cooked all the way through). The grasshopper pie filling was okay, but the crust had that too long in the freezer aftertaste which was somewhat offputting. As the meal wore on, the crowd began to pickup which meant service got progressively worse - took a very long time to even get a dessert menu, let alone get dessert ordered and served (shortened the meal by handing the waiter our credit card when the pie finally showed up so he could run it without disappearing again). Overall, can't see why this place is so highly rated, especially for the price.
