“Wonderful!”
Reviewed 29 March 2012

We stayed in the cottage in the rear of the property. This was our first trip to New Orleans, and we hadn't stayed inn a Bed and Breakfast in many years. We arrived to a warm and friendly greeting from the owner, Jess. The home itself is absolutely gorgeous! The rooms were sparkling clean, and you really are made to feel at home.

The cottage was beautiful, and set back a bit from the house, which offered a little more privacy. The breakfasts in the morning are five star, and absolutely delicious.

The only "downfall" is the location in terms of the hustle and bustle of the tourist areas. It's a 10-15 minute walk to the French Quarter, and you'd be smart to take a cab back at night ($7 or so). In all honesty, I would even call this a downfall.

The prices for the rooms are reasonable, and you certainly feel like you get your money's worth, and then some. I only wish we could have stayed there on a recent trip, we just waited too long to book.

A wonderful place to stay!

Stayed March 2010.

Room Tip: Check out the cottage!

Thanks for writing a review. It was wonderful to take over the B&B from Jess back in September. Although I've added a number of personal touches to the decor and to the breakfast menu, I am proud to continue the long tradition of excellent hospitality for which the Five Continents is so well know. I look foward to your next visit.

We had a great trip to New Orleans and the Five Continents was an our base. It is excellently located on Esplanade Ave - a quick drive to the French Quarter or up to City park. You can also walk to the French Quarter if you enjoy long walks. Parking is free (in the lot or on the street). Breakfast was good - but not special and pretty much the same each day. The house is absolutely beautiful, but the Asian Suite is interesting. The main room is large and comfortable, but could use a new mattress. The sitting room is a bit superfluous - basically a large area with an old kitchen sink that serves as the room's area to wash up. The bathroom is usable, but tiny. Only about 4 feet wide, we had to side step the wall to get into the tub (I'm 5' 11" and 160 lbs - hardly a large fellow).

Having said all that, if you are looking for a romantic, luxury inn - this is not the location. But, if you are looking for an inexpensive (in New Orleans) base from which to explore the city, this is an excellent value. If you know what to expect - a basic b&b, with a very nice owner (and a sweet dog), free parking, decent breakfast, convenient location - you will be very happy at this b&b.

Room Tip: Asian Suite - tiny bathroom!

Thanks for staying with us, and I am so glad you had a great time in New Orleans. Yes, the Asian Suite, the smallest and least expensive of our suites, needs some updating. This has been a priority since I purchased the property. The bathroom is bit small, and especially so when there are more than two people staying in the suite. Hope to see you again soon.

We were really excited to stay with Five Cont B&B solely based on recent reviews. Property is very nice and in a generally convenient location. Breakfast was prepared well but we did not get to have any of the delicous sounding dishes that were listed on the website and highly recommended by other guest. We were disappointed with service a little. Host was not helpful with recommendations for places to eat and things to see. The most disappointing part of stay was the service. Our room was only cleaned once in a four day stay and only done so after we requested. Trash was overflowing and towels were not replenished. In general it was acceptable but not as advertised by previous guest.

I am so glad that you all had a great time in New Orleans and that you stayed at the Five Continents. I am sorry to hear that we did not fully meet your expectations. In light of your observations I have isntituted a seasonal Breakfast Menu Card to include some of our usual items such as Eggs Sardue, Russian Eggs, Croque Monsieur/Madam, Le Petit Dejeuner Provencal, French Toast, as well as our selectoin of omlets. Thanks for initiating this and thanks again for staying with us.

Our experience was second to none. The inn is just beautiful and the location is great.
Each morning we were treated with a wonderful breakfast served in courses at just the right time. The relaxed atmosphere allowed us to make the most of our weekend.
The cab service suggested by the owner was quick to respond and only $7.00.
Next time we will bring our bike so that we can easily enjoy the neighborhood. The private off street parking is a big plus. We wouldn't think of staying anywhere else.

We loved our stay with Peter, Walter, and Akko! We were in town for a convention and after comparing prices at convention hotels we decided that it would be more economical to stay at the Five Continents - even with the additional parking expense. We stayed in the North American cottage and it was wonderful. It was very quiet, the bed was most comfortable, the WiFi was convenient, and the coffee was great. The breakfasts were divine - the omelettes were outstanding. Akko was ready to play at a moments notice. We are not sure he thinks of himself as a dog.

Peter was most gracious, a wonderful conversationalist. He was able to recommend restaurants even though we were fairly familiar with the outstanding food in New Orleans. My wife and I would heartily support anyone staying here. We plan to return whenever we stay in New Orleans.

Room Tip: The North American cottage is very quiet and has fewer stairs than are in needed in the main house.
