“Metairie Cemetery”
Reviewed 28 August 2012

Probably one of the most beautiful cemeteries in New Orleans! My daughter and I hopped the Canal Street trolley to Cemeteries from St. Charles Avenue and were there within 20 minutes. The walk from the entry we came in to the offices took about 10 minutes, for their maps of self-guided walking tours - (we came without a car), were great, but really, you just need a pair of eyes to admire the incredible beauty of these mausoleums and the great sculptures on them. Could easily have spent half the day there, but we had an early departure due to plane flight and the fact it started to rain. Definitely worth the effort to get there, and it is very safe to tour on your own!

“Get the tour”

The cemetary is interesting to see, but tour it with someone that will tell you the history and stories and where all kinds of sayings came from. One of the more fascinating things to see in New orleans!

“for the wealthy deceased”

The grounds & tombs are beautiful. Burials all above ground like most NOLA burials. Peaceful & artful. Big oaks.

“Historic, ethereal”

Wow, didn't expect this! Kinda creepy but deeply moved at the architecture and enormity of some of the crypts and mausoleums. Fantastic effort to memorialize family.

“If you have an interest in seeing a beautiful cemetry”
Reviewed 16 August 2012

Went into the main office and requested maps for tour of the cemetery. The lady gladly gave us 2 different maps and CD's. one on the families the other more Civil War based...we did the family tour...it was very informative and interesting..full of history...this cemetery is well kept up unlike the other cemeteries in NO that have fallen into disrepair.....this one tho is an active cemetery. there was a funeral there at the same time we were...but none the less I took lots of pictures...especially of the famous "weeping Angel" just beautiful..
