“Ornate tombstones and postbox burials”
Reviewed 22 June 2012

Great commentary on bus there that orients you to process of funerals and burial and at cemeteries (scenes from EasyRider) and tottering edifices of white all around, slots for burials, grottoes, walk-in ornate family vaults and stories abounding. Great walk around.

“Very interesting for history Buffs”
Reviewed 22 June 2012

It was very walking through the cemetery during mid day, but the stories and the history was worth it. Bring a hand fan and extra water and be prepared to know about all the types of family tombs within the cemetary.

“We explored by bike”
Reviewed 21 June 2012

We went to this cemetery to specifically see the Weeping Angel. What a beautiful sculpture! You can not go inside the mausoleum itself as the door is chained but in such a way that you can still see the statue. Also and sadly someone broke one of the stained glass windows so you can also see the sculpture from this window: Hopefully the exposure to the weather through the broken window doesn't ruin this beautiful statue!

“Lovely Architecture”
Reviewed 20 June 2012

The architecture of this cemetery is simply amazing. The peaceful atmosphere welcomes you to take a leisurely tour of this cemetery and take lovely photographs to carry home the experience. We toured the place in our car, occasionally stepping out to take closer look at certain tombs which are definitely work of art. This place, built in 1872, has a lot of history and houses some notable and celebrity burials within its grounds.

“what a visit”
Reviewed 20 June 2012

We took the canal street car marked cemeteries to the end of the line and walked the few blocks to the Metairie gates.....really a interesting place to visit and anyone visiting NOLA should be sure to include this. At the end of the canal street there are 7 cemeteries but Metairie is the most notable.
