I stayed at The Crescent Palms Motel for 2 days. It is located in one of the less fortunate areas of New Orleans, about 3 miles from the French Quarter, and there is a lot of road construction currently in progress. However, the motel itself (which was damaged by Hurricane Katrina) has been newly renovated, and the rooms are quite appealing on the inside, especially given the affordable pricing ($50-$55 per night). Each room contains two fairly comfortable double beds, a large screen TV with several channels, a refrigerator, free wireless internet, and spacious bathroom. The room was clean, and bath towels were stocked daily. A large, sturdy metal gate is locked around 9:00 PM, and the only way to enter the motel after the gate is closed is with the keycard to one's room. Vehicles can be parked inside the gate but must remain there until the gate is opened in the morning. Guests can also park their vehicles right outside the gate if they plan to drive somewhere at night. Either way, parking at the motel is free. I chose to park outside the gate and did not experience any problems. Staff was friendly and helpful and even allowed me to check out two hours beyond the typical checkout time of noon. I enjoyed the personal feel of the motel and liked the idea of supporting a local (non-chain) business, particularly one with such a colorful history (see Crescent Palms website for more details).
