My husband and I along with another couple stayed at this resort on an RCI week exchange. The place has been recently remodeled and opened in Aug. 2008. If you are a frequent timeshare user, this place may not be what you are used to. There are virtually no planned activities offered and the amenities are few. There is an outdoor, not heated wading pool without places to sit, a hot tub which was closed for tile repairs- seemed odd since the place was only open for two months- and an exercise room/sauna which was nice and well equipped, but I never saw anyone using it.
There was an area offering morning coffee which was really anemic on the second floor. My advice is to go out the back door, cross the side street and enter the Sheraton where there is a Starbucks for java or make your own in room. They also had complimentary newpaper.
The units were spacious, but not well utilized in terms of that space. The TV's and seating areas were very far from each other and the sofa bed was not suitable for sleeping- the matress had to be placed on the floor. The king bed in the MBR was very comfortable. The door to the unit stuck and the handle to the shower came off several times the toilet paper holder was behind the person who needed it and difficult to reach. There was no ice maker in the fridge, but there was a machine in the hallway. The ceilings were very high. This created an echo in uncarpeted areas like the bathroom, so any sound in their could be heard throughout the unit- really loud in the middle of hte night or early morning. And the window coverings plush and kept the unit very dark well after sunrise- good for sleeping in. The view from our unit was restricted by other buildings- not impressive. They had a good starter pack of paper products.
Now for the good- LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION. The building is 1 block from Harrahs, 2 blocks from the French Quarter, and 1 block from the St. Charles streetcar stop. The staff was friendly though not really as knowledgeable about the area as they need to be. One valet/bellhop was able to guide to a place to buy a streetcar ticket and get area info.
We basically knew our way around, and people who come to NOLA rarely need a lot of resort organized activity so the place met our needs. I wish the bed had been more comfortable for our guests though- and get better coffee!
