I requested a room on a high floor with a view and was given a very nice corner room with a view of French Quarter, at a cost. The staff at was very rigid and unaccomodating (especially since I'm perks member). The property is within walking distance to all the downtown attractions of New Orleans, including the French Quarter, Harrah's, Du Monde's, etc. If you prefer to ride, the trolley stops in front of the hotel.
The layout of the hotel is odd, with the small lobby and drive in the back. They indicated that they are preparing for a major remodel. Be prepared to circle the block to get to check-in. The location of the Marriott across the street also ads to the confusion, but traveling is an adventure.
Shula's is in the hotel and has the best cobb salad I've ever eaten. I grabbed lunch at Shula's before heading out for the day. The staff was wonderful and the food was amazing.
I have access to the lounge for Marriott perks members. I was amazed to find that it closes on the weekends. None of the other properties I've ever visited had such limited hours. The food was good, but there was a cost for drinks. Soft drinks were free. It was not set up for the casual pleasure traveler that travels on the weekends. Room service is a bit limited, since it come through Shula's.
All in all, the property was clean and pleasant. The location was good. The staff was a bit rigid and not extremely friendly, but did a good job. I'm not sure if I'd stay at this property again, but may look around at other locations to get a wider feel for New Orleans.
