For $3 a day per person, you can travel as much as you want for 24 hours. With the parking costs, this is the best way to get around the city. There are three major routes that we took, one along the Riverfront (Mississippi River),Canal Street and St Charles. Canal Street one ends at the Cemeteries. St Charles will take you to the Garden District. All drivers are very friendly and helpful to tourists. Have exact change when you board; drivers are not allowed to give you change.

Took the streetcar round-trip on St. Charles St. Nice view of the incredible old homes n architecture of old New Orleans, n Tulane.
A nice way to enjoy the sights on an old landmark conveyance.

As a person said to another looking for directions to get to an appointment, do not depend on the street cars if you are in a rush. The street cars run 24 hours and you can purchase a day or multi-day pass if you will be in town for more than a day. My 3 day "Jazz Pass" was $9 at Walgreens and I made good use. Regular fare is $1.25 each way so determine how much you think you'll use the RTA system during your stay. Many stops along St. Charles and recent line will get you near City Park. Take the street car to enjoy an old fashion mode of transportation to the Garden District at Washington or stay on to visit Loyola or Tulane University's. See some older mansions. Good side trip if you need to give your feet a rest and have extra time.

Buy a $3.00 day pass and get on and off at will. You must have cash. They do not do change. A good way to see the city.

Unique way to get around. Board directly outside hotel. Conductors are helpful. Once you figure trains out is is an affordable way around the city.
