Owner description: Get wherever you want to go in New Orleans with the Regional Transit Authority (RTA). Our extensive network of buses and streetcars winds throughout every neighborhood of the Crescent City. From Uptown to Downtown, from Lakeview to the Lower Nine, from Mid-City across the Mississippi River and to the parish lines, the RTA goes there. As streetcars glide underneath grand live oaks and past stately mansions, they offer up relaxing views of the beauty, charm and history of New Orleans for little cost. When riders board these historic vehicles they are boarding a piece of movable New Orleans history. The RTA operates three streetcar lines: the famous, historic St. Charles line, the Canal Street line, and the Riverfront line. All lines either run along or intersect with Canal Street in the area between the French Quarter and the Central Business District (CBD) connecting Uptown/Garden District, Carrollton, Mid-City, City Park and the Marigny. The RTA is currently adding more Streetcar lines.

“Near Marquett House”
Reviewed 20 April 2012

I stayed at the Marquett House Hostel and only had to walk one block to catch the streetcar. I loved going up and down St. Charles to see the mansions and eat in some of the retaurants.

“Get on early!”
Reviewed 20 April 2012

A popular, cheap, relaxed and reasonably frequent way of traversing the district and taking in the many fine homes and 2 universities, but to be sure of a seat best get on near the terminus. Conversations seem to flow in the same leisurely way as the trams themselves.

“Convenient affordable and fun!”
Reviewed 20 April 2012

It was fun to sightsee on the St. Charles line. There are beautiful homes in the Garden District. Late at night it was a convenient way to get in and out of the Quarter. Beware sometimes the later cars are full of people who wish to keep the party going. We were on a car with 8-10 obviously underage kids who all had open containers they were passing around. Although that's not too different from being in the French Quarter.

“Great fun!!- quirky service!!”
Reviewed 20 April 2012

Was great fun , service all along St.Charles. When you catch the streetcar home after the French Quarter, be sure to get on at the first stop- you may be disappointed at the second stop- we saw the streetcar pass the second stop with many people waiting, even when the car was NOT full.
The drivers are fun!! and helpful. Passing trains sometimes stop for a discussion between drivers (making dates and catching up on gossip?) Exact change only, except when the machine isn't working when the fare becomes free.

“Great Way to See the Garden District”
Reviewed 20 April 2012

Take this streetcar to enjoy the beauty of the Garden District. You'll also see Tulane and Loyola. The tracks are being redone just past the zoo, but if you wanted to go farther, you can switch to a city bus there and just tell them you already paid on the streetcar.
