Owner description: New Orleans' Preservation Hall was established in 1961 to honor one of America's truest art forms - Traditional New Orleans Jazz. Operating as a music venue, a touring band, and a non-profit organization, Preservation Hall continues its mission today as a cornerstone of New Orleans music and culture. Situated in the heart of the French Quarter on St. Peter Street, the Preservation Hall venue presents intimate, acoustic New Orleans Jazz concerts over 350 nights a year featuring ensembles from a current collective of 100+ local master practitioners. On any given night, audiences bear joyful witness to the evolution of this venerable and living tradition.

“Dixieland Music”
Reviewed 9 March 2012

Not to be missed if you are a Dixieland fan although check first or listen at the door before paying the cover charge of $15.00. Sometimes the regular players are out of town.

“What a Rip!”
Reviewed 8 March 2012

Tried this place twice; long lines, hours wait. The place charges $15 for about 45 minutes of jazz. There are only tables for 25 and the rest (about 100) have to stand, no food, no drinks, no service. It's very historic and not worth the time.

“Absolutely Amazing!”
Reviewed 6 March 2012

Place has amazing character! We waited in line for an hour just to see the show. For the price, it was well worth it!. We hear that the seats on the floor were the best so we rushed to get them. After a long day of walking around sitting on the 200 year old hardwood floor on cushions; not a good idea. Also, call ahead if you are there during peak times nd reserve you "big shot" space holder.

“I could sit here all night, every night”
Reviewed 5 March 2012

Look no further for pure musical entertainment, from insanely talented musicians. Old, rustic feeling venue. One row of pillow seats on the floor, three rows of benches, then standing room in the back. Bands rotate every night. 8:00, 9:00, and 10:00 sets nightly. $15 gets you into as many as you want to stay for. Songs by request for tips. If it's standing room only, using during set changes people will leave and seating becomes available. They don't sell drinks (expect bottled water) but you can bring your own in. No bathrooms.

They are serious about the no photos/recording rule. We saw the piano player stop mid-song to get up and ask someone in the crowd to put the phone away. So, don't do it. It's distracting for everyone. If you wanna take the experience home with you, buy a CD on your way out. Proceeds from some of them go toward support music outreach programs.
