“A good stop if you're in New Orleans.”
Reviewed 22 June 2010

St. Louis Cathedral is a good place to beat the heat. The exterior of the building is beautiful, and the inside is more so. The ceiling and altars are amazing. You can tell that a lot of history has occurred. If you are Catholic, you can take a moment to engage in worship. It's a place of calm in the chaos that can be the French Quarter.

“Very lovely, but if you've been to Europe...”
Reviewed 2 February 2010

While it does have some American historical significance, compared with the cathedrals I've seen in Europe, it barely competes. The interior was lovely, but while most religious sites leave me feeling very inspired and connected, this one left me feeling like I'd just spent some time in a very nice building. It is worth a visit it you are in New Orleans, but keep your expectations in check.

“Incredibly Beautiful.”
Reviewed 8 January 2010

This landmark is free to go through. It is quite a stark contrast to the surrounding French Quarter bars and clubs. Inside the cathedral that are bits of history and outstanding artwork. There are polite suggestions that walking around inside and photography not be done during services however during any other time you can explore and take as many pictures as you like! This is a definite must do for travelers on a budget or those who appreciate cultural attractions.

“Do Not Miss St. Louis Cathedral!”
Reviewed 13 September 2009

The Cathedral-Basilica of St. Louis King of France is the oldest Catholic cathedral in continual use in the United States, Usually referred to as "The St. Louis Cathedral", it is one of New Orleans' most notable landmarks. The greatest moment in the history of the St. Louis Cathedral was the visit of Pope John Paul II in September, 1987.

The cathedral is absolutely gorgeous! Please make sure that you include it on your "to do" list when visiting the Cresent City. The church is right on Jackson Square, which is an area with alot of happenings - street performers, artists, fortune tellers, etc.

But when you enter the Cathedral, no matter what your faith, you will be overwhelmed by its massiveness and beauty, and the solemn presence within! Even with all the hustle and bustle going on outside....

Tour the church and take pictures, and if you'd like, kneel down and say a prayer or light a candle for a special intention.

The best part is that it won't cost you a penny! But a donation to the church would be nice...
