Honest handmade excellence pours out of every facet of this gem. From the outside, the shop is as unassuming as a cube, except for the pleasing logo of blackbirds flying from a pie. But once inside, there is the cheerful color scheme with modern folk art on the walls, the heady aroma of really good coffee, the straightforward friendly warmth of the staff, and the case full of really well-made bakery products.
Where to begin? The pies are wonderful, full of fruit flavor set in a lovely flaky crust. The mixed berry pie was absolutely delicious. The carrot cake muffin was perfect, setting a middle course between flavor density and textural lightness.
Turning to savory, the hand pies were also excellent -- another flaky crust holding fillings such as spinach & feta or mushroom & walnut that are marvels of rich flavor. Bagels? Perfect, of course. The version with wild smoked salmon, sun-dried tomato cream cheese, capers, dill, tomato & onion was so good that my wife had it 2 days in a row.
The homemade granola was also a model of a sure hand setting a middle course -- rich in flavor while not oversweetened, perfectly toasted.
I should also follow up on that aroma that fills the shop -- a good rich locally-roasted coffee in several choices.
The bright wood carvings and whimsical paintings make it an inviting place to linger over your coffee & pastry.
This is a place where professional culinary training meets small town America organic hip. I recommend it highly.

It's a bit on the expensive side, but it's very tasty. We came for the baked goods but were pleasantly surprised they had hot breakfast sandwich options.

I always go here for a hand pie and eclair, or a delicious bagel with lox (went there today as a matter of fact!). The nitro cold-brew coffee....also dlicious. The folks that run this work hard and it shows. Literally, everything is superb here.

Wanted to grab some coffee and baked goods on a Saturday morning. Stopped in at 7:30a and not too busy yet. They had just taken out 2 quiches. We tried both the sage sausage, broccoli and cheese as well as the asparagus and cheese. Wonderful. The homemade crust is so light and flaky. Our party also tried one of their hand held pies. Kinda like an empanada but not such a thick dough. Spinach and feta was yummy. Ask them to warm them up again for you. Muffins and bagels are also special. They make different bagel sandwiches too. Small place so get there early. Okay prices, $3 for slice of quiche. Only 2 women working hard to hand make everything so be patient!
