Very nice English and Sri Lankan breakfast you can find in Nuwara elia.
Good decorated and pro staff.
But only the coffee is not as good as the others...

The Barnes Hall buffet is a wonderful spread allowing one to sample Sri Lankan food alongside western, Italian and Indian fare. The hall as the name suggests feels like a mess in a British college and is great for big parties as they have long rows of tables which can seat 10 people or upwards as well. They had a live band crooning to retro songs.

The food was good, they had the usual Sri Lankan curries and vegetables, soups & breads, Italian pasta, roast meats, Indian curries and naan. The dessert counter was extensive as well. The kitchen staff was kind enough to make a vegetarian pasta for my wife. The only room for improvement could be that the wait staff can remove used plates from tables a little faster.

I would recommend a visit to Barnes Hall for a wonderful buffet. The pricing is towards the upper end of what we paid in Sri Lanka.

We showed up at Barnes Hall after a late drive into Nuwara Eliya and a hungry and tired 5 yr old in tow. Most restaurants in town had closed and this was one of the few that was open.

The Grand Hotel in which the restaurant is located used to be the Colonial Governor General's residence and the opulence and ostentation shows in every part of the building including the 3 restaurants on premise.

The waitstaff were all impeccably attired and polite and patient and when our 5 yr old demanded an apple, they actually peeled, cored and cubed the apple and served it with silverware . Talk about service :)

But in spite of all that, there is more earnestness in service and ambience than a genuine effort to focus on the cuisines, with the result being rather average food. Combine that with 5-star prices and it definitely brings down the whole experience a notch.

Not a ding against the restaurant, but if they plan to bill themselves as a multi-cuisine fusion restaurant, a little bit of creative authenticity might help

I can't comment on any other meal type, but Barnes Hall serves probably one of the best breakfasts in Sri Lanka. A giant buffet includes a fruit bar, a juice bar, more than 10 different curries, a waffle/crepes stand, numerous different baked goods, English breakfast options, ... You name it. There probably 20 people constantly working on the buffet. My strong recommendation!
On the downside, Barnes Hall is quite huge and doesn't offer an intimate atmosphere for a romantic dinner, I'd say.
