Just got back from a week at the Riu. Never been to such a clean hotel. Amazing staff, all so friendly and charming with a good grasp of the English language.

Rooms very comfortable and the all inclusive deal is exceptional. Fabulous swimming pools, activities and entertainment.

Our cleaner Kasun was very good, on my birthday he arranged all my cards on the bed together with a lovely towel decoration depicting a cake!

In the restaurant Maleesha was fabulous, such a charming young lady and exceptional at her job. Phillipe the Restaurant Manager is a great asset too.

We don't have a bad thing to say about this hotel or its staff!

2nd time to the Riu. No complaints everybody who works in the hotel are amazing and so friendly. Food is outstanding with a lot of choice.
Beach boys on the beach are great and very polite. Tharidu (big brother tours) is lovely. I would suggest going on your trips with him as you are looked after with a friendly smile from start to finish......
Lady's on the beach (Tipeka and Jessica) are wonderful lady's who on both our holidays looked after us and gave good prices for there sarongs, hope and t shirts.
Been home now for 4 weeks and planning 3rd visit already

We've just returned from a very relaxing 2 weeks at the Riu, as with many Brits we booked with Tui and flew on the Dreamliner from Gatwick. Flight was pleasant and arrived into Columbo early afternoon after flying through the night, fairly easy to get through immigration with pre paid visas, we opted for a standard coach transfer which got us to resort quicker than some that used private taxis. Arrival was well organised by the hotel and despite a rather large amount of guests turning up within a very short time we were soon able to get to our designated room, first impressions were very favourable with a large comfortable bed, good living area, plentiful storage space, in room fridge filled with water and soft drinks, and a decent valuables safe. The hotel is very easy to negotiate, despite its fair size everything is within a few minutes walk. The 2 main pools overlook the small amount of waste ground before the beach. The main buffet restaurant is at the back of one of these pools and offers a outstanding variety of hot/cold foods catering from a western cuisine to far eastern offerings and included local dishes to tempt you with. This is probably the largest variety I have ever witnessed at an all inclusive hotel and everything is very fresh with chefs working behind the respective food stations topping up the available dishes, drinks were kept flowing very efficiently and your glass is never empty. There is a choice of Red, White, Rose and sparking wine along with beer, soft drinks, water, teas and coffee. There are 3 speciality restaurants which are situated adjacent to the main buffet restaurant, these can be easily booked via reception and again represent a tremendous addition to the food on offer. A special mention must go to Phillipe the restaurant manager who is always in evidence throughout the day in all of his venues, he undoubtedly leads by example and I have never witnessed such hard working staff that really go out of their way to make your stay a truly memorable one. There are 3 main bars, the flamingo which services the swim up bar area during daylight hours, the purple lounge which is the evening entertainment venue, and the lounge bar adjacent to reception. As an add on there was also a mobile bar set up adjacent to the towel station during daylight peak times and a nightclub which was open to 2pm daily. All bars, as with the food venues, provided a great variety with impeccable service. Reception staff should also get a special mention for always being so helpful and pleasant at all times. The overall cleanliness of the hotel is exceptional, in fact one of my only small negative points would be that the main floors were so clean that they were quite slippery and one or two guests had some minor mishaps. In front of the hotel, beachside, there is a small strip of rough ground which is populated by a variety of beach sellers, these people were a credit to the country and provided a great service whether it were for trips, clothing, or just a way of spending some time just chatting. I have been to many countries and have witnessed many different types of aggressive selling and this certainly does not fall into that category. We booked a variety of trips, some local and some somewhat further afield with Baba tours, the service and personal touch that we received was second to none, we always felt very safe in their company, were able to tailor make our proposed journeys and the prices put the big tour companies to shame. Mention should also go to Charley and her brother who supplied us with excellent polo shirts, beach wraps/dresses, caps and lots of other holiday essentials, again at excellent prices well below those you might expect to find and the quality is very good. Across from the sellers strip is a great open sandy beach, free of any pollution and great for walking along with no unwanted visitors, the sea unfortunately is fairly rough and with strong undercurrents, not suitable for swimming. We celebrated our wedding anniversary whilst at the hotel and the treatment we received on our special day will be long remembered, from our beautifully decorated room along with cards and a bottle of sparkling wine to a wonderfully laid out table in the Asian restaurant again with an ice bucket containing another bottle of bubbly. Finally a huge thanks for all the wonderful guests we met at the hotel who really helped to make a wonderful break, you know who you are, especially all those that watched the Rugby in the lounge bar on a variety of tablets all showing the game at different times ! I really think that Tui guests only arriving once every two weeks gives people the opportunity to strike up a really good holiday bond. Final remark, would we return ? Despite still having a long list of places we would still like to visit I imagine that we will especially at this time of year when the sun shines as much as the smiles on the hotel staff. Thank you Riu Sri Lanka.

Had a unique experience when I stayed at RIU 6 months back, it's really unique when compare to other local hotels in different aspects
- Food ware almost western and had a lot of verities which can enjoy if you are a western food lover, the best thing is snacks available anytime in 2 or 3 different locations other than the main buffet.
- There were lots of pools if I'm not mistaken 5 pools for 5 different purposes, kids pool was really amazing for Kids and I really enjoyed pool which had a bar attached to it,
- Drinks were amazing as it's an all-inclusive package you can drink as you wish in so many verities of cocktails
- There were some activities happening from the evening like dancing shows, magic shows for kids and karaoke etc..

Room tip: any room with sea view
