Private Bali Tour: Temples and Rice Terraces Tour
Reviewed 2 weeks ago via mobile

This temple is an ancient one which is carved in mountains, one of the major temples in Ubud. The view from the top of it is fascinating, there is rice field near by and a river in the middle of two ancient temple stones. Little pool with fish, differrent small temples on the top of the hill are the places to be seen. The temple is at the bottom of the hill, near the river, therefore you have to climb up the stairs on the way of back. There are lots of stores , very reasonable prices comparing to Ubud no need to bargain. We tried milkshake which is verry good in the restaurant at the top, and when we finished the tour drink coconat juice (less than 1 dolar) and eat the rest at home. They sell good stuff, cheaper. You can spend 2 hours included resting. This place is not suitable for wheelchair or if you have problem with your legs, lots of stairs !! Another recommendation, if you are planning to go Pura Menenging Temple which is very near and lovely one, go there after this temple. Because you have chance to have bath in cold spring water. It will be better after high stairs and hot weather. All of the temples open very early, you give less than 1 dolar for ticket but you give donation for sarungs also.

Gunung Kawi was absolutely beautiful. It actually surprised me how stunning it was. Absolutely worth the 300 steps it takes to actually get down to the temple. Definitely bring water with you because the hike back up is killer in the Balinese heat. Try to visit later in the day or earlier in the morning when the sun isn't directly overhead and remember that you don't need to buy a sarong before entering since they have them for free when you pay to enter. Be prepared to be bombarded by women telling you "you need sarong for temple", both entering and leaving.

The historic temple, its location away from the noise and very historic, deserves the tourists much liked visiting this place.

The temple is quite large, consists of several parts. Pass up and down the stairs. Quite exhausting, but it pays off with a very unique and cool temple amazement. Lots of souvenirs sellers here.

Every step allowed for another great view around the corner. When you got to the bottom it was something that felt out of Indiana JOnes movie. Sure you will sweat 400 steps on the way back up, but worth it.
