Exceptional in all areas - location, ambience, service, quality of food and beverages, spa-environment. Certainly comparable with other top-rated locations all over the world.

We decided to splurge to stay here on our honeymoon and it wasn't exactly what we expected:
Pros:
- Gorgeous hotel grounds- feels like you are staying at a royal palace
- Room was very clean with gorgeous furniture and a very nice jacuzzi tub and outdoor shower
- Pool was very big and had lots of chairs to lie in- they bring you free water and a cool towel to wipe your sweat. (unfortunately the pool is not overlooking the ocean)
- Beach is black sand but very pretty and quiet with free chairs
- Buffett breakfast is very grande and delicious!

Cons:
- We found the hotel to be pretty boring. We are a newly married couple in our late 20s and we felt too young for this hotel. If you are an older couple and enjoy sitting around and reading then this might be the hotel for you, but we like music and activities around us. When we were by the pool we joked that we had to whisper because it felt like were at a library as quiet as it was.
- My husband was told to put his shirt on at the BEACHSIDE restaurant! I understand they want to keep it fancy but we were a bit offended and it made the place feel very uptight and too formal.
- The restaurant and excursions and spa were way too expensive for us. We ended up walking across the street for dinner and paying $5/plate vs. $20-30/plate.
- DON't order room service for breakfast- we thought it was $10 but got charged $10/person + tax and service and you only get a few things from the buffet.

So overall- this is definately a 5 star resort and deserves all of its good reviews...just not really our style.

The three days we spent at the Matahari were close to perfect. The grounds are beautiful and the large rooms are stunning. The staff, the library, and the spa are excellent. It was perhaps the three most relaxing days of our life. It was hard to choose between the beautiful pool and the warm waters of the Java Sea. The only improvement we can suggest is a wider variety of choices at the restaurants. Anyway, if you have the opportunity to go, we would whole-heatedly recommend the Matahari Beach Resort & Spa.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 17 which was near the ocean and the beach restaurant, but I imagine that most room...

I was travelling with a girlfriend and we spent my birthday at the Matahari Beach Resort & Spa...and yes, I felt spoiled!

It's the only 5 star resort in the northwest of Bali. When a driver arrived to pick us up from the last hotel we stayed at I asked him if he liked working at the Matahari. He replied, "Yes, we're like family. People have been working there a long time and it's family."

That was how our 24 hours began and I paid attention after that. The rooms are beautiful, the food is excellent, the menu is creative and varied and you will pay resort prices. When you're there, pay attention to the details, such as the care the staff takes with their job and your needs. The table settings are unique and handmade from the local village, the bread is baked fresh on the premises. The chef is Balinese and he comes out from the kitchen during meals to talk to a few of the guests and check to see how people like the meal.

These are the details you want to notice and appreciate when you're staying a real 5 star resort that cares about quality of service and your experience. The General Manager clearly sets the tone for the energy and attitude of the staff. The staff have a sense of humour, they are smiling and happy to be at work, they enjoy each other and the guests and it shows.

For my birthday I received fresh flowers in my room with a warm note from the General Manager and staff. Then, at breakfast the staff brought a small birthday cake and sang Happy Birthday. It was fantastic. The cake was fabulous! Baked on site! We also had the best Irish Coffee's with fresh cream served to us with smiles and jokes from our wait staff.

The rooms are well spaced apart from each other so there's no real noise, just peace and tranquility. The higher priced rooms are just as nice and luxurious inside as the lower priced rooms, the main difference in location and size. (higher priced ones are closer to the beach and bigger square footage) Our room had an outdoor shower - which was a huge stone gargoyle and an indoor bath/shower. Totally unique!

It was a fantastic stay and a true 5 star experience! Highly recommend it.

My friend and I stayed at this gorgeous resort for one night only but we left feeling like we had made new friends. We stayed in a garden room close to the pool and had twin beds, which were really high and really comfy, and the outdoor shower made us both laugh as it’s the best thing ever – you’re basically showering from the mouth of a huge stone gargoyle! The WiFi in the room was super fast and free – always a bonus.

We ate lunch in the beach side restaurant and the service and food were both exceptional. Try the burger with cheese and fries. I know it’s a western old-faithful but they do it so well. We had a great dinner in the other restaurant and my coconut chicken soup and curried fish dish were definitely two of the most delicious Asian dishes I’ve had in Bali. Try the Irish Coffee with cream afterwards, which the boys will wheel to your table and flame up into your cup right in front of you. Oh and the breakfast is a huge spread – try the bircher muesli, the homemade breads and also the homemade salami and ham. The salami was the best I’ve ever tasted.

My friend celebrated her birthday here and the staff were so lovely. They made her a cake which we had after both breakfast and lunch, and they also left a little note and a vase of flowers on our outdoor table for her. Sometimes it’s the little things at a hotel that make you want to go back. Well at the Matahari there was a series of little things that just made us fall in love with the place.

We both had a signature massage in the spa. The oils all smell incredible and the massage was great, but the spa itself is worth a look even if you don’t have a treatment. You can sip your tea by a huge lily pond, and if you’re on a honeymoon you can have the place to yourself and even sleep on the outdoor bed. Maybe one day!

As for the huge swimming pool, the sun-loungers around it were the perfect spot for me to catch up on some kindle reading, although there’s more of a breeze if you head to the beach and lie on a lounger on the black sand. You can also play giant chess, darts or talk to the dive staff about a diving trip to Menjangan, although we didn’t do that on our visit as it was too windy and we were a bit scared of the current!

I love the eco friendly efforts in place at the Matahari, they not only compost and recycle waste but they also recycle their water to use on the gardens during dry season. I think it’s important for places to make efforts such as this on an island that’s changing so quickly and buckling under the weight of all its development in other areas. I would recommend the Matahari to anyone travelling through Pemuteran, and who feels deserving of a little bit of luxury.

Dear Writesitedubai,

Best regards from Matahari Beach Resort & Spa.

Also on behalf of my entire team, I thank you for your nice comments and the beautiful pictures you have made.
I like very much the entrance of our Parwathi Spa. It's remember me a painting of Ketut Teler, a famous Balinese Painter from Gyannar.

It will be our great pleasure to welcome you again one day to our Paradise. In the meantime, please feel free to contact me at any time if you require any information.

Warmest regards from the North West of Bali.
