Aquaterrace is awesome. I stayed for three nights, and enjoyed spa treatments every day. The best treatment was the cleopatra's rose facial (get it!). The restaurant menu is big, but the food is still good. You can eat in your room, or sit in the restaurant which has the added benefit of a cute little cat named Coco that roams around.

I did the kayaking/snorkelling tour, which was fun (but a little expensive) and the guide spoke great english.

After having to defer our visit back to Aquaterrace last year we were determined to make amends by making it part of our 3 week stay in Bali this year. We made the right decision.

The upper floor room in the Beachside building provides a fantastic outlook over the Bali sea and an early morning chillout on the balcony day bed watching the fishing fleet return is perfect.

Aquaterrace is outstanding value for money not only for accommodation but also in the small spa - 2 for 1 treatment times make it a no-brainier to use this as frequently as possible. The soaps and oils in the shop are delightful and the sarongs irresistible.

Breakfast delivered to the balcony and complementary afternoon tea are great touches and the short walk to the small restaurant at the other site is not an issue. Recommend the Japanese items on the menu.

We will be sure to make a 3rd visit next time we are in the Amed district.

There is nothing to fault with the hotel itself - the most beautiful location, far off the beaten path, with waters so clear that you could see your own reflection. Rooms were elegantly decorated and had a Zen like quality to them. The staff was kind and helpful and even arranged a sunrise boat ride and massage at a short notice. Wish we had stayed longer as this was one place you could easily lose your heart to. If I had one quibble it would be that we were not given the room that we had originally booked -the reception claimed that we were upgraded but I am still not sure about that. Also, sometimes there is a strong sewage smell that wafts across the rooms and the hotel grounds. Ok- so two things. Not sure if it is unique to the property closer to the beach and the property that is higher up is saved from the odor.

Amed is the kind of place where it's difficult to actually get around without your own means of transport. And even then, it's quite likely a bit dangerous. While most of the dive centres and hotels in the area do have their own transport arrangements, if you're not diving, you might find a bit of difficulty getting around, although the staff at Aquaterrace did help take us around in the vicinity.

The hotel (Ocean Front) is pretty great, it has fantastic views and is bright and airy. The waters in front of it are crystal clear and the beach is pretty great. The rooms are functional, the sit-out overlooking the pool and the ocean are a great place to spend the time and there's nothing better than to fall asleep to the sound of the ocean lapping the shores and waking up to it as well. There's no TV or so in the rooms though, so if you aren't diving much, it might get a little slow during the day. It's great if you want to just catch up on reading or some sleep though!

The pool is lovely, the sun loungers are great and the property itself is quite nice. Food's great, the spa is well reviewed though we didn't get a chance to try it and the staff do put in a lot of effort to help make the stay a great one.

Depending on the location you'll be diving, there might be other places to stay but this place is definitely well maintained and comfortable and you're unlikely to get better views than from the Ocean Front rooms.

Would definitely stay here again if we come back to Amed.

P.S.: There are few insects but a lot more geckos around. Of course, that might explain why there are fewer insects. :)

Room tip: Ocean Front Rooms are fantastic!
