We (three adults) stayed at Kaits home based on a recommendation from Edgar at the Old Harbour Hotel in Fort Cochin. We were looking for something unique and authentic and Kaits home proved to be just the place. We were welcomed to this small village in the backwaters of Alappuzha by Jossy Thomas and his family (wife, mother and small son). They were very kind and looked after us with the best treatment and service we recieved in all of India. Jossy spent much time showing us around and sharing his culture and experiences. Furthermore, the food for every meal was lovingly prepared, delicious, authentic and plentiful. Many of the ingredients were sourced directly from their property (e.g. coconuts, fresh fish). The location of the home is directly on the backwaters (river) and provided a very beautiful and peaceful way to relax and enjoy the nature and serenity of Kerela. We stayed at over ten different hotels/homestays throughout our cross-country trip to India and this place was the tops. As of now, this remains a quite and secluded location, and the nearby village (Champakulam) is still off the beaten path. The facilities at Kaits home are basic, in that it is a family home. You do get your own separate room and entrance, along with the joys of an attached, outdoor, washroom (still with full plumbing and shower/tub). Later, we did switch to one of the little "cottages" right on the river, just to try it out. This too was nice, but basic, and had a full bathroom in the cottage. Both were nice, clean and comfortable. Again, my lasting impression is the hospitality provided by Jossy and his family. As a side note, we also stayed and enjoyed Jossy's recommendation of his wife's cousin's place in Munnar (Rose Garden Homestay and Nursery), see my review in Munnar.
