“A lifetime experience!!! Most memorable holiday!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 June 2012

I am a very frequent traveller...have visited many places...but believe me, this has been the best till date!! The house boat was so beautiful- neat and tidy- luxurious....the food was awesome...the service was great! anything and everything about the trip was amazing!! Right from the moment we stepped in the `River Escapes' office- the hospitality was so good. Once we reached the boat, it was an experience which would remain with me for lifetime. In the evening, when the boats are marked in the lake, the sunset view was beautiful- and the calmness which settles in the water is to die-for. I had just taken one night stay trip- wish it was more...would surely return back...a must visit for all who are planning for a houseboat experience!

Hello!
We couldn't agree more that spending time in the calm of the Kerala backwaters is one of the most wonderful experiences we know of! Gentle breezes, freshly prepared Alleppey cuisine and friendly staff are luxury indeed.

Backwater sunsets get better and better as the seasons change - you'll have to return to refresh your memory sometime soon. Since your travels we've rebranded as Xandari Riverscapes - so should your travels take you to Costa Rica, do look us up. And if Kerala is on your map again, we’d love to host you by the beach or on the harbour. More travels to you!

I can not express in words how beautiful this felt, this has to be easily one of my best travel memories. The experience of cruising through the Kerala backwaters, surrounded by the rural scenery and such a great variety of birds, is truly special.

I would highly recommend going with River Escapes (by Raxa Collective) because an average houseboat with average service could really take away the charm out of your backwater cruise experience. The staff was courteous and eager to please us from the moment we were arrived. They happily agreed to pick us up from Coconut Lagoon Kumarakom. The houseboat was well maintained and clean, the upper level seating area is SO romantic! The food was fantastic, especially the pan-fried Pearlspot, a local sweet water fish found in Vembanad lake. One of them was a bird enthusiast, we had a great time spotting at least 20 types of birds. Do bring along some binoculars! I felt so comfortable around them I joined them for a game of cricket and also a swim in the lake after we anchored for the night.

In the end, I felt like this was a great way to get a glimpse of the local people and their environment without leaving the comforts of the houseboat.

Room Tip: The upper level in our houseboat had a very cozy and romantic lounge but I noticed most of the house...

Hello!
Thank you for sharing your wonderful experiences with the River Escapes family! Floating through Kerala's famous backwaters on a traditional Kettuvallam is indeed luxury. Add lovingly prepared Alleppey cuisine and friendly staff, and you have the makings of memories that last a lifetime.

Since your travels we've rebranded as Xandari Riverscapes - so should your travels take you to Costa Rica, do look us up. And if Kerala is on your map again, we’d love to host you by the beach or on the harbour – or return to the backwaters for more floating relaxation.
More travels to you!

During last trip to kerala we took houseboat from river escapes. While making booking we were worried if facility will be same which was promised during booking? I have read many blogs where actual house boat and facility will be different from what it will be shown during booking but with River Escapes it is not true. They provide same which they promise during booking. Their houseboat is clean and staff are very friendly. They provide different choice of food like north indian/south indian/veg/non veg. Houseboat are well maintained and rooms are specious. I will certainly recommend this for anyone who want to experience luxury in houseboat. For more about houseboat stay read my blogs @http://www.tripabstract.com/2012/05/20/kerala-heaven-backwaters/ and Pics You can find out @ http://www.tripabstract.com/photo-tour/photo-tour-kerala-heaven-backwaters/

Room Tip: If you are taking single bedroom house boat ask for houseboat with upper deck.

Hello Rohit!

No trip to Kerala, or even India for that matter, is complete without a journey along this amazing water network. And we complement the scenic views with what we bring to the table - fresh catch of the day cooked authentic Kerala style, and a host of Kerala specialties.

From the moment we stepped onto the houseboat, I felt like I was on an exciting yet relaxing adventure. River Escapes is like a journey or ride through the backwaters; you see everything from ladies washing their clothes to shell divers on in their narrow canoes. Not to mention, the food was spectacular. I remember one of the prawns was the size of my fist! Great fresh and well prepared food served by a very attentive and knowledgeable staff. Our captain explained the history of the backwaters to us and was enthusiastic to answer any of our questions. I'll never forget gliding over the backwaters just thinking this is so cool!

It’s heartening to read of your memory of the great backwaters. No trip to Kerala, or even India for that matter, is complete without a journey along this amazing water network. And we complement the scenic views with what we bring to the table - fresh catch of the day cooked authentic Kerala style, a spread featuring rice and a host of Kerala specials. Incidentally, the cruise route is known as the Rice Bowl of India given the paddy cultivation here.

The experience on the backwaters is one you don't want to miss. It's just simply beautiful. Watching the sun set from the deck of the houseboat with palm trees lining the sides of the waterways is a memory I'll never forget. The houseboat far exceeded my expectations. The decor is beautiful, the rooms very comfortable, and the main areas perfect for enjoying the beautiful scenery. The food is wonderful and you get to try all kinds of Southern Indian specialties. This is an India that you've never seen before.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Xandari Riverscapes Life on the backwaters has a different set of rules. First, since there are no roads we depend on canals, rivers and lakes for our travel routes. Most families have a boat of their own. Children often learn to swim at least as early as they learn to walk-you are likely to see kids splashing in the local equivalent of a playground. Their school buses float, as do the postal vessels delivering to homes here. Even the supermarket floats!River Escapes provides an experience of the backwaters of Kerala in a vessel whose history harkens back to the ancient rice trade of this region while also providing modern comforts. These vessels are designed to balance authenticity and innovation. They are engineered to balance comfort and environmental responsibility - we pioneered the technology now considered the gold standard of emissions reduction. Most importantly they are staffed by members of the local community who are proud to showcase their corner of God's Own Country to visitors.A unique set of waterways in our state's central region allows us to showcase three districts that represent the "rice bowl" of Kerala - all by boat. We started operating our houseboats in 2006 and are now the respected leader on the backwaters in terms of environmental responsibility, commitment to the communities where we bring visitors and in terms of guest satisfaction. ... more   less
