They were really kind to me and the backwater tour they arranged for me was great (not an houseboat but the 8h tour with James's boat ). The place is neat and the price is fair.

To be honest we were somewhat dissapointed by Sona Home. The old chap who ran it was a charming gentleman and helpful but it was rather more basic than we had expected and it struck us as a once good budget option which was heading downhill. Hard to identify the exact problem but it seemed quite rarely used and rather musty. Also had to rouse the family to ask where we could go and get some dinner and they seemed a little upset at being disturbed from watching the television. But once again Dad was eventualy very helpful if slightly out with his info. Had thought to stay two nights but in the end were happy to move on after one. To be fair the charges were very reasonable and the hot water and A/C both worked. Not a disaster but we won't be returning to Sona the next time we pass through Alappuzha.

A nice heritage building with guest rooms dotted throughout. Set back from the road in a quiet spot in Alappuzha. We were welcomed with open arms the moment we set foot here and were looked after well until we left. Sona, the owner, was always available with great advice.

Rooms were very spacious with french windows all around providing a well ventilated and cool room. Very clean and bed came with a mozquito net so you could sleep with the windows opened listening to the frogs and watching the fireflies in the garden at night.

We arrived for the weekend of the snake boat race for which it is perfectly positioned (500m away from the free race section of the backwaters). Dispite ALL other accomodation options almost tripling their prices for this weekend, Sona kept his prices the same - keeping in tune with all his other honest and helpful advise.

Limited food on offer here. A little out of town but within walking distance.

Would definitely stay here again if we came back.

Room Tip: We had a room on the corner of the house which had windows on two sides. Would recommend this one.

Stayed here for one night when backpacking around Kerala. Is a little bit out of town - fine to walk but you do need a torch at night! We walked one way and get a tuk tuk back on the evening.
There isn't a great deal in alleppey, its more of a stop over place before or after a tour of the backwaters but if you are choosing between alleppey or kottyam overnight, there is more to see in alleppey (and more places to eat!)
The guy who runs it must be in his 80's but is really interesting. Told us all about Communism in Kerala and that he used to be an accountant etc. Lots of random stories!!
He brought us breakfast on our sunny little terrace in the morning. The rooms are clean but your typical Indian guesthouse (slightly random wooden funiture). We had one with a 4 poster bed with mozzie net over it.
I know he arranged a trip for another couple staying in the hotel for cheaper than they were quoted in town.
All in all, a fine night on what for us was just a stop over after a day on the backwaters before heading to Kumily the next day
