We recently stayed at the Hampton Inn Brooklyn/Downtown and I can't say enough good things about our experience. We needed to be in Brooklyn the night before our departure on the Queen Mary 2 for a transatlantic crossing. We wanted a clean, safe, conveniently located, well maintained, and reasonably priced hotel for the night -- and this is exactly what we got. It's not fancy, but the building was recently renovated and is well appointed. Everything worked, even the shower drain! This is quite unusual for hotels of this type and cost. Moreover, the front desk staff was extremely pleasant to deal with and exceptionally helpful. I would be remiss if I did not give a special mention to Brian, who was absolutely terrific!

We elected this hotel because of its stellar TripAdvisor reviews and because of its convenient location near the Brooklyn Cruise Ship Terminal. If you are boarding a ship there, it's just perfect. I also discovered that it is very easy to get to lower Manhattan from the hotel, so it would be a great place to stay for a visit to NYC if you aren't looking for anything fancy and don't want to pay outrageous NYC fancy hotel prices.

We will definitely return to this hotel the next time we visit NYC.

The hotel is clean, which is why I gave it a 2. Parking per the Hilton website is $45 for self park. You only pay $45 if you have a compact car. Anything else is $65 for self park. The bed was shaped like a bowl. Neither my wife or I slept all night as we were fighting to stay out of the bottom of the bowl. While sitting in the chair next to the bed having coffee, I could visually see the bowl shape of the bed and that the edges were several inches higher than the middle.

Its a nice hotel, but dont go there to sleep.

Jerry

We had a great stay here at the Downtown Hampton Inn on Flatbush. The check in was super easy with friendly staff and the comp lawyer was so appreciated. We had 2 rooms which were both super clean and had a great refrigerator and plenty of much as makeup wipe remover, body lotion , nice smelling soaps and shower gel and plenty of clean towels. The breakfast was very good and included in our rate as expected at a Hampton. Would stay again!

Checked in late June to July 4th. I cant thank the staff enough for their great hospitality. There wasn't a time we walked by where we didn't get a warm and personable greeting! You can tell the staff enjoy their job. Thank you Ki,Lukka,Oscar and Manny for making us feel like we were at home.
Thank you for suggesting places to take the kiddos and keeping them busy! The hotel was nice and clean, the rooms were clean, bed was good and pillows were soft! The complementary breakfast had a good selection to choose from and the food was always hot.
Again, thank you all! See you soon!

The room prices increased significantly since my last stay here in 2023 and the hotel experience was less positive.

Benefits include the location: 20 minutes or less to multiple subway stations, Barclay center, shopping, and restaurants. The hotel provided us water bottles whenever we asked.

However, I can no longer recommend this hotel due to safety concerns. There are "long-term residents" (i,e, migrants or unhoused people) staying at this hotel in a program coordinated by the city of New York. Three times during our six-night stay, I encountered belligerent "long-term residents" in the lobby or elevator. When I mentioned these encounters, the hotel staff stated that they do have "some long-term residents," but their only solution for my safety concern was to move me to another room. (I restated that my encounters were in the lobby and elevator, not my particular floor.) Seems to me that "long-term residents" should be housed in hotels that can accommodate their mental health needs and needs for in-room cooking and on-site laundry instead of a hotel that caters to mid-range travelers.

Other tips: There are two sets of elevators, make sure you ask which ones go to your room. There is a very basic breakfast in the lobby with coffee, yogurt, waffles, eggs, bananas, and so forth each morning. It gets crowded quickly. So, arrive early.
Don't try to eat that the hotel's restaurant, each time we went, there was only one person to be the bartender and the waiter. Instead, walk down the street to Junior's Restaurant or DeKalb Food Hall.
