I just came back from a 2.5 week trip in NY, and I must say that this was one of the best, most memorable things we did during our entire stay. Even my husband, who typically doesn't like tours, said it was the best tour he had ever taken. I really wanted to explore Brooklyn an all of the changes it has gone through, but I felt a little intimidated to do it by myself. So, we decided to take a tour. Other tours are either walking or bus tours. I didn't think that a walking tour would've shown us enough of the area and a bus tour would've felt too impersonal. Get Up and Ride Bike Tours was perfect because we were able to cover a lot of ground without being rushed. It was the perfect pace! Felipe was our tour guide and owner of the company, and his passion for Brooklyn and biking was evident from the beginning. He showed us so many spots--both "can't miss tourist" spots and many local spots.
I had taken another tour in Manhattan and was exhausted at the end of it because it was a LONG walking tour. But, this bike tour was leisurely and I had plenty of energy after it was done. I really loved the microphone headsets we had because it allowed Felipe to talk to us as we were moving from spot to spot. It was super easy to understand what he was saying at all times. Best of all, the tour felt really intimate. There were only 4 of us in the group, so it felt like Felipe was our friend showing us around his neighborhood. I completely recommend Get Up and Ride Bike Tours. You won't regret it!
3 of us took the tour of Brooklyn. Was fun, a great route, excellent stops. Best Pizza was the BEST Pizza. Safety was stressed at the beginning of the ride. Learned lots about Brooklyn we didn't know before. Thanks!!
Great service from tourguide Nadav, the tour gave a good insight to Brooklyn and the history for those who come for the first time. Bicycling is so much better the hop on hop off buses and you cover much more ground than if you walk. Only bad thing was that it was very difficult to hear Nadavs comments in the walkie talkies use during the ride
Thanks for the review. We're so happy to hear you enjoyed the tour with Nadav, we also agree he is great guide (and so does everyone else, he regularly gets 5 star reviews)!
We wanted to write a quick response to let future guests know that even though our walkie-talkies make our bike experience so much more immersive, they are not perfect. Things like a strong breeze or lots of construction can make hearing the commentary a little more difficult. It's super important guests let us know if they're having a heard time hearing the guide so we they can make adjustments on the fly! We always stress that there's no need to be polite, if you can't hear or are uncomfortable or simply want to take a picture ... Just ASK! We'd rather stop and make an adjustment than have your experience be 4 starts, not 5. Especially if it's a small fix like a walkie-talky!
Such a fun 4 hour bike ride through several Brooklyn neighborhoods. Felipe is a very charming and informative guide with an emphasis on safety. Some of the views we came across were spectacular! I recommend taking this tour on a Sunday. The streets were relatively empty of cars which made for a much more enjoyable ride through the city. A visit to a rooftop garden/farm overlooking the Manhattan skyline was a most enjoyable stop. If taking this tour, keep in mind that bicycle helmets aren't included, so you might want to ask about renting one if you have any concerns about riding through busy city streets....Overall, I highly recommend this tour.
Thanks so much for the review! We definitely provide bicycle helmets to any guest that would like one, they are just not mandatory. They are hanging up nicely on the wall in our store, our apologies if there was any confusion about that on your ride!
It was a great experience, the tour was very well designed , the tour guide was excellent and I love the priority bikes. I have taken several bike city tours and this is the only one with intercoms , great idea, the only thing they need to rethink is that they don't stop at beautiful vista points so you don't have a chance for pictures , that is a bad thing.
I must admit to feelings of trepidation when my friend was trying to talk me into getting on a bicycle and riding around Brooklyn. She managed to convince me and I'm so glad she did. This bike tour was in the top three things I loved most about New York! We arranged a tailored tour and our guide James was amazing. He was super informative, mindful of our safety, entertaining and an all round great human to spend a few hours with in the afternoon.
I highly recommend doing this...it's a seriously cool way to get down and amongst the streets, cover a fair bit of ground and see fantastic things you might ordinarily miss out on. Also, I'm absolutely not fit and managed just fine.
Did I say James was great? Because he was :)
Four very happy Aussie gals.
