I was in the area and checked my GPS for local parks. This came up. Wasn't expecting much but was quite surprised when I got there. The fort has a lot of buildings and bunkers to explore and they are all open. lot of walking and some nice trails and views. Can even see the Washington Monument in the distance. In season there is a fee to get in but it is worth it

This place is a gem, just down the Potomac from DC. The fortifications are easy to access and walk through. There is a nice, small, visitor center. Plenty of trails to wander the property and a lot of parking. The main fort is in excellent condition and the officers barracks is open to tour. The Ranger was enormously helpful and informative. This is a very worthwhile stop if you are in the area.

This is an old fort with crumbling structures which was not really used much. Great views of the Potomac. The Fall foliage is quite lovely.

I’ve been many times to the Fort, sometimes to sit and quietly read, or show friends around. I have even used it for photo shoots. The history and sprawling vistas are exciting.

We went to Fort Washington and had a blast. Lots to see, a lighthouse, abanded fort, draw bridge, officer quarters and more. What's great is the beautiful grounds and the structures that you can walk and explorer. Dont feel like you have to keep kids quiet and still. They can run and explore. Our little kids had a blast.
