The Heathman Lodge Vancouver shows up in an unlikely location. The lobby looks to belong in a forest: hand-peeled wooden poles, Indian blankets, the sound of tweeting birds piped into all of the hallways. We expected the desk staff to be dressed as National Park rangers. But the neighbourhood is a business park with lots of offices and chain restaurants. Our room was a one-bedroom suite on the fourth floor (which floor is strongly recommended). The double sink in the bathroom is well calculated to preserve marriages. The furnishing and bed were comfy. There was a small deck outside the bedroom window but the view was of parking lots and utility areas. We made several requests of the front desk staff and found them all to be extraordinarily cheerful and helpful, really going out of their way to accommodate us. The worst part of our stay was our experience with the Maître D' station at Hudson's Bar and Grill. The fashionable young ladies standing around chatting animatedly with each other were far too busy to be helpful to us. When we asked, they were rude. This was not isolated; we had several such experiences and finally gave up on Hudson's in favour of driving to Beaches Vancouver on Columbia River Drive overlooking the water. The food at Hudson's was good; it was the hostess staff that were awful. We enjoyed the Angus beef tip sauté with blue cheese sauce, the Hudson's crab cakes (made with both shrimp and crab), the smoked-chicken corn chowder (which may have been the best thing we ate there), the Hudson's meatloaf (were it not for the burned carrots), and the fiocci pasta (which is a surprising combination of cheese, pears, grapes, hazelnuts, brown butter and blue cheese). My sweet bride recommends the Maryhill "Hudson's Label" red blend wine, which is offered by the glass. We will definitely return to this hotel; I'm not so sure about returning to this restaurant.

Room Tip: We very much recommend the fourth floor rooms.

Good morning FatherSteve,

We wanted to say thank you so much for taking the time to offer your review and feedback of the recent experience that you had here at both the hotel and the restaurant. We greatly appreciate when our guests follow up with us about how things went. We have a wonderful team here that works very hard to ensure that our guests feel at "home away from home!"

We apologize for your experience in our restaurant with our host team. We have already directed this feedback to our food and beverage management team for follow up. Thank you so much for bringing this matter to our attention!

We are certainly looking forward to the opportunity to be able to welcome you back to the hotel again in the future. We want to thank you so much again for your time, patronage, and feedback. We stayed here 2 nights. We have a small dog so I called ahead to get a dog friendly room. All the dog friendly rooms are on the bottom floor. We had a back door that let us out on a small patio which led to the bushes next to the property, so it was very handy for taking the dog out. The whole place was very nice with big wooden beams and an outdoor feel.

We stayed here on the night before the eclipse. We'd booked a room with two double beds and requested a roll out on arrival. When we came back it still hadn't arrived. What ensued after that was a bit like a farce with us moving rooms and ending up moving back to our original room all because they'd run out of roll out beds. It ended up being a confusion with a new staff member and the manager who eventually took charge of the situation was very good and bought an inflatable bed so that my son had somewhere to sleep. They also gave us a bottle of wine for our trouble.

So, although it was frustrating for about half an hour of confusion, all in all I would say that it's a good hotel. The rooms are very nice and there's a good swimming pool. It was very easy to get on the Interstate and drive into Portland.

Loved the place and will be back. This beautiful place looks like it belongs in the backcountry. Its designed like a log home. Large logs define the lobby and each floor. It's a treat. Lovely clean rooms and the restaurant is 5 star.
