This is one of the highest rated restaurants in Savannah, so on our trip, we *obviously* had to eat here! We got reservations for about 9 PM on a Tuesday evening so we figured it was a little bit outside of the dinner rush.
When we arrived we went to the hostess stand where about 3 young women were standing. We gave our name and they mumbled so it was hard to understand what they were saying. They did communicate that we needed to wait a few minutes and we said ok, no problem. The hostess said, 'So where y'all gonna be hanging at?" asking where we would wait. We indicated the bench on the porch.
We were escorted to our table and promptly brought water. It was on the first floor and I could see the hostess stand from my seat. We ordered an appetizer and entrees. The food took forever to come - really unacceptable. For an appetizer, we ordered the fried green tomatoes with a sweet corn sauce. It was...fine. I wouldn't order it again or recommend it. It was all a little bland and the tomato seemed undercooked.
It was about an hour before we got our entrees. In the meantime, there was a constant din and lots of shenanigans at the hostess stand. Hostesses sharing loud personal stories and the occasional waitress stopping to make weird noises and join in. At one point they must have been cut for the night and a middle-aged woman took over the hostess stand, she stood there eating food out of a takeaway container.
Our entree arrived - we ordered the fried flounder and the fried pork chop. Both were delicious and we would recommend the flounder any day of the week. The fried pork chop with greens and mac was good but I probably wouldn't order it again.
Overall the experience was underwhelming considering the reviews - especially the atmosphere.
