You are very close to a major hospital and ambulances scream by all night. Adjacent to a mall that we witnessed people screaming, cursing and acting totally crazy. Everything very expensive.

Room Tip: Our room overlooked the harbor. Constant sirens and very noisey.

Big disappointment. My husband and I stayed here the weekend of 4/14 while visiting our college student. We usually stay at the Marriott Waterfront, but thought we'd try the Renaissance since this is the hotel recommended for us to stay during commencement weekend this May. I am so sorry that our reservations are here and now we are having difficulty getting a room any place else. Lobby was not clean and definitely not what I've found to expect at Renaissance properties. Even the checkin counter left alot to be desired. Then we get to our room which was OK, not really as clean as expected, carpet soiled, and towels were old and shredding. The Starbucks and cafe in the hotel was awful. Tables were dirty with crumbs, etc. from previous customers and overall appearance was not good. I am really hoping to get into another hotel.

We were upgraded to a corner suite that was bigger than anything we have ever had before. We even had a dining room table that seats eight - just what we needed. Windows on two sides that opened for a cross breeze. Unfortunately, as others have commented, street noises are way too loud to leave the windows open at night (and we thought downtown Toronto was noisy!) Excellent location with stops for the free busses nearby, taxis out front and almost everything within walking distance anyway. We didn't eat breakfast in the hotel since Panera Bread, Corner Bakery Cafe and Miss Shirley's were all near by. We would recommend on a busy warm weekend that you make dinner reservations ahead as all the popular restaurants were extremely busy.

Room Tip: Our room was #8038 with a direct view of the harbor. A corner suite with a king size bed, separate...

This is the second time we've stayed at the Renaissance Harborplace. We love the location to everything in and around the Inner Harbor. No need to take a car or even a cab most times if the weather is nice. Most attractions are a 10-15 minute walk away in any direction.

Check in - Check in was quick and efficient. My wife checked us in as I parked the car. We arrived around lunch time and our room was ready. There was a mixup in booking since my wife did it online. They gave us a room with a single bed, but we were a party of 3. A conversation with the manager got us moved up to the conceirge level with a full harbor view. Still only a king bed, but they provided a cot for our daughter. The upgrade included access to the lounge which had continental breakfast on the weekend, so this more than made up for the confusion with the room.

Service - Everyone we encountered was more than friendly and knowledgable, but there were a couple of weak points during our stay. When we arrived in our room there was an issue. My wife noticed that they hadn't cleaned the bathroom toilet. The previous guest had "left something behind". It was gross, but housekeeping quickly responded when we told the front desk, who apologized profusely and we were able to get free room service out of it. The second issue we had was with regards to room service. We put out the room service form the night before and requested it be delivered between 6am and 6:15am. The first day, around 6:20 I called down to the front desk. A few minutes later, our meal showed up. Not sure if this was because they were afraid to wake us up or just because the service was slow (hard to believe at 6am on a Saturday). Every other Marriott brand hotel we've been in has gotten room service to us on time or even a little early. The person delivering it to us apologized and said the meal was on him (even though he was unaware that it was already free). Not completely discouraged (and because it was already free), we ordered again the same way. Again, it did not arrive on time. We were working on a tight schedule so this time when I called the desk I told them to tell room service to cancel or order completely. Both days, we returned to the hotel later in the morning and ate at the club lounge. This, combined with the fact that the meals were already free made this a minor inconvenience. Other than those two issues, the rest of the service we received was fine.

Rooms - Standard hotel fare. What we've come to expect from any Marriott product. It was large enough to comfortably acommodate the cot without feeling over crowded. The bed was comfortable. The room was clean (except for the bathroom issue mentioned above) and was in order. One thing of note is regarding the safe. The safe is in a drawer above the refrigerator, not in the closet. It is MUCH smaller than other room safes in other hotels. I typically have no problem storing our valuables and still have room for our Nikon Camera and telephoto lens. Most of ths space in the safe box is take up with the lid to the safe. The locking mechanism for this already small safe must be huge. I couldn't fit the camera in the safe, so I had to carry it with me or leave it in the room, hidden. This didn't sit well with me. Keep this in mind when deciding which vailuables to bring on your trip.

Other notes - The hotel is attached to the Gallery Mall. Access from the mall to the lobby is for hotel guests only and can only be opened with a keycard. Parking is not associated with the hotel, so it cannot be negotiated off of your room bill. There is an elevated walkway that attaches the Gallery Mall to the smaller Harborplace Mall across the street. The entrance to the walkway is near Five Guys in Harborplace Mall. Bathrooms near the Ground Floor Cafe also need a room key to access. I'm sure this is necessary to keep undesirables from using the bathrooms. That is somewhat comforting, but also a little disturbing as well.

Due to this hotel's location, we'd come back. We didn't have the service issues the first time we stayed that we did this time. I will give them a pass for now and hope that it was a not indicative of a larger issue. Overall, it was another good stay at the Renaissance Harborplace.

Room Tip: Harbor view rooms are worth the upgrade if a view is important to you. Take advantage of the club lo...

I would highly recommend this hotel to everyone. We walked everywhere, even to Litllte Italy!! The hotel is conncected directly to the Gallery Mall and the Gallary Mall is connected to the Harbor Inn Mall by an outside overhead cross walk. We parked our car and didn't get back in until we left. We parked in the 100 East Pratt Street Parking Garage. Parking is costly. We parked at about 3:30 on Easter Sunday and left the following Tuesday around 9:15 am and cost us $61.00. Reading reviews before we left I knew parking would be costly and emptied out my vehicle of all items due to vehicle break ins. Our vehicle was fine. The area we stayed in was very safe and cops were seen everywhere we went. The only downfall is the fridge in the room was very very small. Bring a cooler if you want to keep more than 3 items cool. I booked this hotel thru priceline for $86 a nite...I couldn't be happier!!

Room Tip: We booked thru priceline so Harbor View room was extra which we declined. We had a view of the hotel...
