I have eaten at Daniela in the heart of Hampden on three occasions and it is an authentic, Italian restaurant where the female owner is the chef! When one enters the restaurant, one feels as though one is in a bistro in Tuscany with attractive wall painting and charming tables and chairs. The owner’s son most recently waited on us and he was attentive and helpful. We have had the most delicious lasagna, ravioli and really fantastic gnocchi. Their pasta is home-made. Their wines are Sardinian and delicious. We haven’t had their desserts yet but they looked decadent.

An Italian friend recommended this place to us heartily, saying it was better than most fine dining restaurants he’d experienced in Italy. Try it, he urged.

He was right.

This place was perfect. Don’t let the humble homey facade deter you. This dining experience is ethereal and almost un-restaurant-like. This mother-son team provides an experience more akin to the best home cooking you could ever imagine… imagine you’re in Italy and have been invited to a local friend’s house for dinner, and his Sardinian grandmother is cooking up some beloved, generations-old family recipes. This would be it.

We’ve been here multiple times and have loved the paglia e fieno (hand-made linguine in a nothing-short-of-heavenly white cream sauce with smoked salmon), the malloreddus (hand-made shell pasta with incredibly rich and flavourful sausage and a complex, multi-layered tomato sauce), and the scaloppine (veal in lemon sauce). Don’t be afraid to try the other pasta dishes they recommend to you.

The prices are not cheap (between 17 and 30 dollars per entree), so you may consider this place an exquisite choice for a special occasion - a birthday, an anniversary, a visitor from out of town. We wish we could afford to come here more often. What a gem.

Daniela's is my favorite Italian Restaurant. All homemade cooking which is phenomenal! Daniela is a wonderful chef and delightful person. Her son is a waiter and is as wonderful as she is. Our waitress this time (its usually her son), was so nice and helpful Not only was dinner wonderful, but served in a very timely fashion. Decore is like eating in someone's home. Just love this place!

I'd been to Daniela's in its tiny, two-table storefront further up 36th Street, but this was my first time in the larger space. The food continues to be very good. My husband had the culurgiones, dumplings filled with potato and mint, which were delicious. I had the fregula con cocciulas (because I like to try new things). The flavor was very good and especially tasty on a rainy night. There were bits of clam shell to look out for, but it was good enough that I just charged forth and ate around them. The sfogliatella, though, was the highlight. AMAZING! We also had the banana/nutella turnover, which had a very nice pastry, but the sfogliatella was the best I've ever had, between the flavor and the texture of pastry.

It's a family-run place and very much felt that way. So service was very friendly and warm, but I think they had too many rooms for the two servers to handle comfortably. They should probably close off the back room and consolidate customers to make it easier on themselves. Overall, though, I really enjoyed the meal and will be recommending it to family and friends.

This is a family owned restaurant; they also work in the kitchen and service the meals. The menu and quality of the food was unique to us. The son of the owner kindly provided us with an overview of Sardinian meals. To appreciate so many of the dining possibilities, it's worth looking up the history of Sardinia. Their food is a confluence of many cultures that include their own native Sardinian dishes, plus Italian, Greek, Turkish, Spanish and historic Phoenician influences.
