“Great Business Trip!”
Reviewed 22 July 2012

Stayed here 3 nights while attending a conference with a team from my school district. The hotel is well managed, and the girls at the front desk were fabulously efficient! They were able to answer any question we had. The rooms and beds were luxurious. It was a short walk from the convention center, Camden Yards, the Inner Harbor and many places to dine. There is a metro stop right outside the hotel. As with most city hotels, you have to pay for parking. I did use the business center, where there is a fee to use the computers. There is free wifi in the hotel and rooms. I did not use the workout room, pool or restaurant. All in all I would definitely recommend this hotel. Our room was on the 10th floor. It was quiet and we did not hear others above us or next to us, even though the hotel was fully booked.

I stayed here with a friend back in late June for two nights. The Monaco Baltimore is in part of a 1920s office building that once housed the headquarters of the Baltimore and Ohio railway empire. The entrance is spectacular. Beds were very comfortable, room was large and spotless, check-in was very friendly, as were the service staff. The minibar is well stocked and as far as minibars go, reasonably priced. Location is great, a few blocks from the Inner Harbor and most of everything else to see in Charm City.

I did not go to the restaurant (instead visiting bars and restaurants in Fells Point and Lexington Market).

Used to be the old B & O Railroad building. Luxury bedding, marble bathrooms and very unique art deco/modern fusion type of hotel. Central to Inner Harbor and a very nice plac we booked on Priceline and we paid like $80 and its a $200 a night hotel.

Very clean and high end furnishings make for a very comfortable stay. Highly recommend

The Good: The hotel is beautiful (those staircases!), the rooms are large, the styling is unique but not weird, the bathrooms are awesome, the level of service is fantastic. We had to switch rooms (more on that later), and we were given a free bottle of wine for the inconvenience (when we had requested the change!) and the staff could not have been nicer. They made a dinner reservation for us at an Italian restaurant they recommended that was the best Italian food I've had in my life (Aldo's). We could not get a reservation on opentable, but they called and the restaurant found a table for us. The staff here really went the extra mile to make us feel pampered and appreciated, from the engineer who looked at our air conditioning to the bellhops to the front desk employees, and they should all get raises or promotions!

The Bad: The location of this hotel is not ideal. You are not on the inner harbor - you are about a ten to fifteen minute walk away. There is really nothing around the area where the hotel is, so you will have to walk, cab or drive to go anywhere. My husband and I both felt the beds were a bit too soft (we are both side sleepers). Finally, the first room we were in had the loudest air conditioner we've ever heard - to the point where when it turned on we could not hear the tv. When someone came up to look at it, he explained that air conditioners are just louder in certain rooms than others. We asked to switch rooms and were able to - our new air conditioner was perfectly quiet. The hotel was very nice and accommodating and apologetic, even giving us a bottle of wine, but they should really figure out a way to fix this! (The first room was on the 12th floor, the second room on the 9th floor, fyi.)

Room Tip: For us, the 9th floor corner room had a much quieter air conditioner than the 12th floor corner room...

While the building itself is an old but impressive historical landmark, the room we had was modern and very cozy . . . although I wasn't thrilled that there wasn't a normal bathroom door . . . seemed more like a sliding closet door. The location is a bit noisy in terms of traffic--I had to buy earplugs--and the area is not that nice, in my opinion, for the Inner Harbor. The service was mixed from exceptional (the doorman and the bellmen we had) to downright awful (an operator that I had the misfortune of encountering a few times who was rude and didn't follow-through on things like making sure my Kimpton number got registered for this stay). The maid service was especially poor as they not only didn't give us shampoo for most of the days we stayed there (which was about a week)--heck, one day we didn't even get toilet paper--but, of course, we did promptly get whatever we needed when we called the front desk. Also, our room was almost never cleaned totally. My wife wasn't thrilled that she came back one day to find her cosmetic case broken on the sink . . . we don't know for sure who broke it, but we suspect it was the same person who was chinsy on the amenities. We never ate at the hotel except for having limited room service--that food was better than average for a hotel. Overall, given other positive reviews, I would give this hotel another try myself, assuming that this time around we just ran into a little bad luck.
