It was recommended to us several years ago by a fine restaurant owner who happened to be remodeling in the evening we visited his restaurant. From this point up we eat there every time we visit Astoria. This is a pub and has loud and casual pub atmosphere. However, their food and service are good enough for a fine restaurant. We never had a single bad dish there.
This time we ordered a bowl of seafood chowder and seafood and fish platter (House-smoked wild Alaskan salmon, pickled herring, trout mousse, roasted cherry tomatoes, caper berries, pickled vegetables, house-made baguette) to share. Chowder was loaded with seafood and very tasty. The seafood and fish platter was to die for. We especially liked the trout mousse and asked for a recipe. To my surprise I was given complete recipe with all the ingredients and weights! In addition, they gave me a recipe of their smoked trout! This level of generosity shows that they are so good that they do not need to worry about keeping anything secret.
For main entrees I had Steak Frite (8oz Painted Hills Oregon beef bistro filet, truffle fries, garlic mushrooms, caramelized shallots, truffle butter) and my husband had Albacore tuna Fish and Chips (firm, moist, without any fish taste). Everything was outstanding!
In a past we were not huge fans of their beer but this time we loved it too.
