We were only able to spend a 90 minutes at teh museum because we got there close to closing. We totally regretted it. We want to go back and spend several more hours. So much to see. Love the place.
Comprehensive and engaging coverage of all things Columbia River-- fishing, coast guard, history, navigation, lighthouses, daily life over several historical periods, you get the idea.
Curated to be good for both adults and children. Photos are impressive. Loved the maps
Don't miss the project to return Japanese flags to original owners' families. Healing happens here
lots of exhibits of history and current information about maritime. Interesting history from Lewis and Clark to modern day shipping and fishery. Columbia river light ship was closed the day we were there but that's OK as it was raining hard
We really enjoyed the museum exhibits and found them very informative and well presented. The staff was extremely helpful also. The store is well supplied with all sorts of gifts and a range of prices. Very good assortment of books, especially for children.
There was so much information to take in. The exhibits are interesting and extremely well done. I definitely appreciate the effort to create locally relevant and detailed material. The museum was very large and took us more than two hours to totally enjoy. Highly recommend!
The museum has several full size fishing and coast guard boats to see, as well as many ship models and maps. Excellent introduction to the Columbia River Bar and shipwrecks throughout the area. Beautiful photos and a nice piece on WWII ships and Japanese battle flags, and family histories around them. There is also information on canneries, Lewis & Clark, as well as exploration and settlement of the inlet and Astoria. There is also a movie theater currently showing a film on Penguins. Looked fun, but we did not go in. Instead, visited the Columbia Light Ship, one of many over decades anchored off the channel entrance. That was fun, and would nice treat for a family outting.
