“Perfect Location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 April 2012

I mirror all the other positive reviews on the location room decor, breakfast and good staff. The website clearly states that there is no elevator, so if you check in and are disappointed, you didn't do your homework. While they do not have a parking lot, there is a very reasonably priced one just next door - access is very convenient. Negative - there is a bit of noise from the street - however I am a NYC girl and am used to that.
Wi-fi very unstable.

Room Tip: Ask for second floor room. Remember you have to carry your luggage up & down!

This charming little sliver of a building is sandwiched between a huge parking garage and a 'vest-pocket' park, right in the Historic District. Decoration was tasteful, the hosts inobtrusive, and cleanliness abounds. We anticipated a lot of external noise from cars and people, but nary a sound on a quiet Sunday night. Our room was delightful--plenty of sitting room to entertain, a lovely gas fireplace, and the bed was comfortable. Parking (at the "Ritz Garage" next door) is expensive, but this is Center City. It's a trek from the garage to the B&B...off-load luggage at the door before parking. The Continental Breakfast was mundane; I expected a full Breakfast, common in most B&Bs. Great location for walking the Historic district, with discount tickets for good local eateries.

We just stayed at Thomas Bond House for a Saturday night. When we arrived in the late afternoon there was wine and cheese. The room (Dr Thomas Bond Jr) was nice - well furnished, although the layout seemed somewhat strange with the bed crammed into a corner. Breakfast was very nice too. The only problem we had was sleeping (the primary purpose of this room?). The room is on the second floor at the corner that faces 2nd street. There was noise from late night revelers as well as cars honking their horns and motorcycles racing by. This went on until past 3am. I would not call myself a light sleeper, but this noise kept me up most of the night. The innkeepers seem to be aware of it, since there was a 'white noise' machine on one of the nightstands. So, unless you are near comatose while sleeping, you may want to be very careful about which room you choose.

Room Tip: Pick a room as high as possible towards the back of the house, away from 2nd street

The Thomas Bond House is in a great location in Philadelphia. Directly across from the National Park in the old part of the City. This area is a great walking area as all of the National Park facilities are easily accessible as well as you are close to the Constitution Center, the U.S. Mint, Society Hill, Besty Ross House, etc.

The B&B is really warm and welcoming. The Innkeepers are friendly and helpful. Beds are comfortable. Nice continental breakfast on weekdays as well as wine and cheese every evening as well as cookies later on. Cost is on par for a B&B, I dare say even inexpensive for being in a historic part of a major city.

Room Tip: Note: We were on the fourth floor and there are no elevators. I would suggest a second floor room.

Note that this review was for a stay 6 months ago (that I'm just now getting around to writing). We stayed at Thomas Bond House for two nights while seeing the historical downtown area of Philadelphia.
We don't mind climbing stairs, so we stayed in the lower priced Ben Franklin room on the top (4th) floor. Room was comfortable and roomy enough for three (but with some low ceiling just around the edge since it is up under the eaves). Climate control was good. Furnishings were simple and quaint (not as fancy as some of the other rooms). Street noise was not a problem for us in that high room.
The ground floor sitting room was an interesting place to sit and read. The regular innkeepers were away, but the substitute innkeeper was a great host (and surprisingly knowledgable for a substitute). Breakfast was nice continental.
Parking is in a parking garage just next door, so is convenient, but if you have a lot of luggage (as we did), you might want to pull up out front to unload first.
The location was probably the best part of all. We were able to walk everywhere we wanted to go for for the two days we were there.
We only saw this one area of Philadelphia. I had heard negative comments about the city, but the downtown area was really great - cool historical stuff to see, and some great restaurants. In particular, you should definitely take a meal at City Tavern, which is just across the street from the B&B.
