“Great find!”
Reviewed 10 April 2012

This intimate restaurant is worth the wait. Take your own wine and savor the fresh flavors of the rotating menu. The portion size is just right. The service was wonderful as well. Try this place ! You won't be disappointed!

“Consistently Delicious-Best Value in Phila”
Reviewed 27 March 2012

I've been to Matyson easily a dozen times. While I don't love every single course of the 5 course tasting every time, the hit rate is quite high. The fact that you can get a 5 course tasting of high quality for under $50 in a food-centric city such as Phila is astonishing. The creativity is top notch, and you can taste the caring the chef delivers in each course. I bring my nicest bottles to pair with the food...gotta exploit the BYO option.

Suggestion for folks thinking about the tasting: Get one tasting between 2 people, and order a la carte for the other. This way you get to taste 7-9 different items. The dishes on the standby menu are top notch and not to be missed. Don't skip the foie gras, and the short ribs if available!

“2nd time was even better than our first”
Reviewed 12 March 2012

OUTSTANDING!! This small BYOB is hard to miss but a must for foodies. I had the beet soup, rib eye steak with eggplant puree and apple donuts with vanilla ice cream for dessert.
Should have seen what my friends had? You must make a reservation.

“Unique menu, great service, reasonably priced BYOB”
Reviewed 11 March 2012

Fascinating menu combinations (fish with a foie gras sauce, grapefruit truffle finish to another, red snapper with vietnamese sausage, snow pea and fennel salad, kale, quinoa and butternit squash salad...) very flexible in the kitchen to accommodate our tastes and preferences. Removed the sausage from my fish dish, substituted another sauce for the grapefruit truffle for my friend - all willingly, with no fuss or any attitude. "The chef will be glad to do that" was the answer. "Themed" Tasting menu at $45 pp looked interesting although we didn't try it. Excellent service -- friendly and attentive without being smothering. Reasonable pricing ($117 for 2, including tip) and appropriate sized servings. Decent sized room and not too much noise for a Phila. BYOB. Not hard to get a reservation a week in advance for a decent time. Give it a try!
