I grew up in the neighborhood in the '50's. Tacco's was a treat to go to. We were back in Philly visiting family and went one night for dinner. Small and crowded with the wonderful smell of baking pizza pies. We ordered a white pie with tomatoes and onions that was superb, brought back many favorable memories. The Margharita was OK, but the sauce had a flavor that was not what I remembered. Would still go again, but for white pie only.

Surprised and happy, Tacconelli's has a section in the Sugar House Marketplace Food Court. Thin crust our favorite, reasonable price for pizza and beers. Pizza is made per order and name called out. Short wait is well worth it. We would come back to Sugar House just for Tacconelli's, which is a neighborhood favorite.

Visited the Tacconelli's in the Philadelphia Surgarhouse Casino. Ordered a Pizza Margherita (red sauce, basil and cheese; the sauce was garlicky). The pizza taste was OK but I've had better at the original location. I should have known something was wrong when the staff member said it would take 15 minutes to get my pizza. A pie in a gas domed pizza oven should only take 3-5 minutes (my experience). The oven was only set for 525 degrees instead of 700-900. The people making the pizza looked like they were just going through the motions without any passion or desire to deliver the food more quickly and with quality to the paying customers. This made the pizza mediocre. Not a good thing for the reputation of Tacconelli's.

Love this place! You have to call ahead and "order your dough's (reserve how many pie's you want) and its a learning experience on how to order! My brother in law is the pro and now we are too! It is true tomato pie--thin crust, really well seasoned crust and if you want true tomato pie, you have to order a "white pie" with tomato's and then your toppings, sausage, etc. They don't like more than 2 toppings as it's too heavy. If you don't say white pie with tomato's you get red sauce! Love it--and its BYOB

Place to eat pizza when in Philadelphia, make sure you book before you go. Expect to wait a bit and bring you own drink.
