“Steps from chairlifts”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 April 2012

Trip Dates 03/06-03/13/12

We stayed at the Mammoth Mountain Inn on our latest trip. The Inn is located just yards from the chairlifts and gondola. Not a true ski in/ski out but as close as can be. We stayed in a standard king bed room which was clean and very comfortable, which was large enough for a small fridge you can request and a small table a two chairs. The room is located in the main building which is where the restaurant and bar area are, they have about four buildings at the inn which are just steps away but not connected. There is also a small general store to purchase items like pastries and coffee. The lobby also has a ski rental shop and they provide shuttle service to the ski village and downtown Mammoth lakes. I would recommend staying in the main building if you are staying there as I heard the rooms in the Yodler Haus were much smaller, the east/west buildings had some suites available with kitchenettes. The staff was very accommodating, I called the group marketing person to upgrade my room and she could not have been more helpful. For restaurants we liked Petra's, Gomez's, Whiskey Creek, and Thai'd Up.

Room Tip: For a better room stay in the main lodge.

Spent 3 nights at the mammoth mountain inn and it was cheap but not very nice. The food in the restaurant was not great either. I would rather stay in town in better accomodations and closer to better restaurants.

We aboslutely love this place....we stay here every time we come up to Mammoth for its proximity to the mountain (ski in/ski out), amenities (i.e. great bar with a view of the mountain), very friendly staff, and cost as compared to other places on the mountain. Everyone is super friendly and they even have valet ski service on weekends! Staff goes the extra mile and knows you by name. Once when we had a problem hooking up our Internet, their IT person came at 9p to help us out.

They revamped the restaurant menu this year and it is very good. We always have a one dinner in their restaurant each of which have been different and equally delicious. Restaurant prices are comparable to other restaurants in Mammoth (although higher than LA). We top our meal off with a nightcap in the bar and always meet interesting people with whom we share our ski experiences.

We have traveled all over the world and have stayed at hundreds of hotels--the staff here is in the top 5 of all of the hotels in which we have stayed. We have recommended this place to our friends who have come up to meet us and they too have loved it.

The hotel is pet friendly....We have a Samoyed named Misho (means teddy bear) whom we bring up on ski trips....and he is always very welcome at "the Inn."

We highly recommend this place to anyone who wants convenience and ambience of staying on the hill (i.e. of walking to the gondola or chair 1 with the added benefit of staff excellence).

Room Tip: stay on the mountain side to enjoy the view of the mountain..............

This was my second stay, the previous one was four years ago. I booked this trip at the last minute following the mid-March blizzard. The convenience near the Gondola, coupled with two lift tickets/night cinched the deal. Be advised they will add a $20/day "Resort Fee" to the quoted rates.

This time my buddy and I opted to a "Loft" unit in the main lodge. Despite its 30+ year age, the room was clean, and the furnishings and linens were in generally good condition. Our only criticism was that the loft lacked a second TV, and had only a single AC outlet on the sloping ceiling.

The big disappointment was the Breakfast buffet. I am a business traveler, and this was the WORST $18 breakfast buffets I have ever encountered! Rubbery scrambled eggs, undercooked scalloped potatoes, undercooked bacon, and hot oatmeal comprised the offerings. Other than bananas, therer wasn't even any fresh fruit.

The table was set with linen napkins, but you had to eat your oatmeal with plastic spoons. With only five customers in the dining room, and two waiters standing around doing nothing, you still had to fetch your own coffee. The food and service were far below what I experienced four years ago.

What's wrong here???

You can't beat this hotel because of location! The hotel staff was nice, and the hotel itself is cozy and comfortable. They have the rental store right in the lobby and the rental process is simple and fast. I liked that they had DVDs available for the guests, and that there was no fee for parking (parking lot is steps away from the front door). Great customer service! Will definitely be going back!
