“Simple, Economic and Close to Central Park”
Reviewed 23 July 2012

I stayed in this hotel last summer because I got an awesome deal during peak season! I paid half of what I would have paid if I had stayed in Midtown Manhattan. Though it is not a four star hotel, it provides comfort and cleanliness. They provide internet access and vending machines. There is a convenience store a short distance away. The store also serves bagels and sandwiches. I was a little concerned about the location before my stay. My mom and I found it to be a safe and quiet area. We were able to get buses and trains to Midtown without a problem. Honestly, I would stay at this hotel again. I loved being right across the street from the beautiful Central Park. It is very quiet at night which makes it easy for sleeping. I have stayed in Midtown and I found that sleeping can be a problem. The staff is very helpful and accomodating when you need something.

Room Tip: If you can get on one of the lower floors, it is better. The elevator is very slow.

I stayed at the Astor on the Park 3 times this year, it's small but very clean, great customer service! I love that the park is right across from the hotel. I would recommend this hotel to everyone, for a great price you are getting great service! I will be taking my kids in 2 weeks.

Stayed at Astor on the Park with my 16year old son, from the 10th to 16th July. Please don’t be put off by the negative reviews, as the Astor exceeded our expectations, and proved to be a really pleasant hotel with friendly and helpful staff. Yes, the rooms are a bit on the small side, but we didn’t spend a lot of time at the hotel, leaving first thing in the morning and returning late evening to crash out. We had room 407 overlooking Central Park, and the noisy air-con and subway below didn’t bother us at all. However if 5 star luxury is what you are after then the Astor may not be for you, but if you are looking for a clean and safe place to stay, away from the crowds downtown then you should definitely consider this hotel. Located on the upper west side at the North West corner of Central Park, it’s only a 10min subway ride to Times Square and all the touristy bits. Don’t overlook Morningside Heights and Harlem a few blocks uptown, well worth a visit too. The nearby Turkish Deli, was a great place for a quick breakfast, good value, free wifi and friendly staff. We loved New York. We did loads, and walked miles exploring this fantastic and vibrant city. All in all the Astor really suited us well, and we would definitely go back. Please contact me if you need any ideas/tips on places to visit during your stay

This is one of the worst hotels I have stayed in...

- The hotel was not clean
- The room had the broken furniture (and fixed using the bandage and tape)
- The linen was not clean...there were blood stains...yuk...
- We were supposed to get queen bed but gave us the double-bed.

Only good thing about the hotel was that they allowed us early check-in (and that too after denying initially that there is no room and then another hotel personnel came over and asked about the what's the matter and then there was a room available out of the air)

I wouldn't stay at this hotel ever again and wouldn't recommend to others.

Room Tip: It is better to choose a hotel at a distance with quality rather that just based on the distance

Good location, just across the street from North-West corner of Central Park. There are 2 metro stations (B,C line) and the hotel is just between - 5 minutes walking.

The hotel is quite old and the rooms are small. Not dirty but everything in the room is worn out.

If you get a street view room it will be very much noise. Ask for an upper level room and no street side. You will have the view of the next building, but not so much noise. The worst thing is that the windows have the AC system included and because of that there is always noise getting into room, just like the window is not closed.

It's better to use the stairs for going down, because the lift is the slowest one possible :)

Room Tip: Ask for an upper floor room, but no street view.
