Charming Hotel- Great Location for Broadway

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 5 Apr 2011
I had stayed here before in a minisuite with my daughter and managed to book it again for a Friday night. It is probably one of the best deals in Manhattan if you want 2 rooms. The sofa bed is not the greatest, but ok . The bathroom is small but has all necessary amenities. The staff was excellent. When we arrived the room was not ready, but the woman at the front desk made sure we got another room fairly quickly and gave us 2 drink coupons (drinks are high so these were worth about $40). I enjoyed a drink later in the hotel bar that the bartender suggested. Room service was prompt . Cost was dealable. The location cannot be beat if you are seeing Broadway shows. This is not a luxury 5 star, but for NYC I think it is a super choice. Clean, welcoming, accomodating. Only real issue is the surliness of NYC taxi drivers and the difficulty of getting a taxi which is something not in their control. Mayor Bloomberg really ought to look into that.

I stayed here for the purpose of business travel. The hotel itself was in Midtown, close to subways, Rockefeller Center and Times Square. The staff are all friendly and helpful. The hotel itself has some lovely period details. The rooms, typical of any NYC hotel, are small but more than adequate considering you should only be there to sleep anyway. Quite clean, too. Ultimately, travelers will enjoy stepping back in time while still benefitting from modern-day amenities.

My daughter and I stayed here for one night and I was so impressed with many details of our stay. I booked the Algonquin via the Marriott website (Marriott Reward Member). It is close to everything! Great restaurants in the area. Duane Reade (essential for those little items) just around the corner. The parking garage across the street was very reasonable to my surprise. The hotel was fantastic. It was so nice to stay at someplace 'different' than the usual modern hotels I am used to visiting. The hotel was lovely. Historical old New York. I had never experienced something to refreshing. Best of all was the staff. WOW!!! Friendly and helpful is an understatement. They couldn't have been more wonderful! I travel ALL the time and this will remain on the top of my list for NY hotel close to everything! Best of all, my daughter received "Matilda" the cat when we arrived and upon checking out was fortunate enough to meet the real Matilda at reception.

A great night stay! An exceptional staff! And love the Marriott is apart of this hotel!

As a Marriot Platinum member I thought I would try this new autograph hotel.
It was absolutely brilliant. Bang in the middle of town - amazing breakfast and restruant - lively bar and full of history and character. Great staff.

I will stay here again

the algonquin is one of the best hotels you will stay at in new york city. It's rooms are very clean and pleasant, and its facilities and lobby are historic and architecturally beautiful. The service is extremely friendly and the location is great! Some of the reviews i read i cannot understand, because it is such a pleasant hotel. Another upside is that it does not have bed bugs (a rarety at this time). The only downside is that shortly after my stay, marriott bought the hotel and has since spiked up the prices of rooms. but, if you are willing to pay an average or slightly higher amount than typical (for a 4 star hotel) for a wonderful nostalgic and very pleasant experience, then the algonquin is the one to go for!

I just love this hotel. I stay a couple of times a year. It's just old world NYC. Right next to the theaters and great dining. The staff is always fun and courteous. The lobby bar is just fun to 'sit and sip' while you 'people watch'--the drinks are a bit pricey ($24 for a nice martini) and the rooms are rather small, but hey--it's NYC. I sooo don't mind, as it's just so comfy and easy, as the staff are always so pleasant. I stay other places in the city from time to time, but my heart belongs to the Algonquin, for sure.
