“A new home base in NYC”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 May 2012

I admit that I had reservations about choosing this hotel. We're used to small, very personal boutique hotels, and I had read the negative reviews on Trip Advisor. However, my husband and I were delighted with our stay at the Grand Hyatt. We experienced none of the problems reported by other reviewers.

From the moment we walked on, the staff couldn't have been friendlier or more helpful. We were advised to use the computers in the lobby to see if a room was available. (It wasn't even 11:00 a.m. yet, but they said rooms are often ready before the scheduled check-in time.) The on-line check-in process is amazing. If your room isn't ready yet, the system will e-mail you or text you when it is. It even prints out your room keys for you.

As it turned out, no queen room was available that early in the morning, so we checked our bags. Again, the service was quick, friendly and helpful.

We had booked a standard queen room at a little over $200/night, an amazing price in this expensive city. The room was clean, comfortable, beautifully appointed and quite spacious for New York, with room for the bed, a sort of corner divan and ottoman, two night tables and a long desk with a large flat-screen. The bathroom wasn't enormous but it certainly wasn't tiny; there was plenty of room to move around and it was well-equipped, with an excellent shower. Contrary to what some other reviewers have said, we had no problems with washing up in the sink and I loved having the long shelf over it with SO much space for toiletries. It seemed to me like a good use of space and contributed to the overall functionality of the bathroom.

We slept well in the cozy bed. We had a corner room on the 20th floor and it was exceptionally quiet During the day we thoroughly enjoyed the location of the hotel -- it was easy to walk everywhere and very easy to catch cabs from the line at the front entrance. When it was time to leave, checkout was again fast and easy. We stored our bags again (no line and friendly service) and picked them up before heading to the airport.

We have stayed in other much more luxurious and more expensive hotels in NYC but will return to this one for its combination of location, comfort, cleanliness, service and price. I would not hesitate to recommend it.

Room Tip: Our corner room on the 20th floor was very quiet.

This hotel was in a good location by Grand Central Station. The staff were helpful and courteous. It is not luxury and has no frills. It is good quality basic accommodation. Could do better with cleaning and upgrading bathrooms.

Room Tip: In this part of New York there are no good views from the hotel. A room with a settee gives you mor...

The Grand Hyatt is situated in the perfect place for travel throughout Manhatten since it is on top of Grand Central Station. We found this to be helpful as we jutted around to many of the sites in NYC. The hotel is modern and comfortable. Some have complained in previous reviews that the room size is small, but we found it to be average size compared to other hotels and perfect for our needs for this trip. Additionally, the room was updated in comfortable modern decor and was quiet. We were concerned about possible noise levels but really never experienced a problem inside the hotel, although outside the hotel, a siren awakened me our first night. Bed quality and comfort is outstanding and I'm happy to report that we slept great both nights. The staff at the hotel was friendly and accommodating. We stored luggage twice with no problems whatsoever. With Grand Central nearby there is no lacking for restaurants some of which will surprise you with their outstanding quality. Starbucks is also right next door to wake you up. Enjoy!

Hotel was recently renovated and is located just in the middle of Manhattan, in heart of Midtown, next door to Grand Central Station. Very well connected to other parts of New York with public transport. Very impressive lobby, good breakfast in New York Central, as well as great choice of snacks, muffins, super-tasty cup-cakes etc in 24-hours opened gourmet "Market".

The best thing about this hotel is location. Grand Central is perfect for all the sights in New York, and has numerous connections. Yes, the hotel is big and somewhat impersonal, but there were some good personal touches to the service. It is a prime convention hotel, so you do have to deal with hordes of people in name tags on expense accounts. The decor of the lobby is garish, but I found the rooms to be a bit more subtle. The room itself was large and well appointed, although I was disappointed with a surprisingly small bathroom and a lack of tea / coffee facilities. We spent six nights in all, and appreciated the comfortable bed! We were on the 19th floor and had no issues with traffic noise. Like the previous reviewers, I was taken aback by the charge for storing the bags, but it was a minor issue. All in all, a very good stay.
