“Worn and Mildewed”
Reviewed 3 May 2012

i just returned from two nights at the Edison and I was very disappointed by my room there. The beds were hard and the pillows were lumpy...the linens were old and worn. The bathroom had a distinct odor of mildew and the towels were skimpy. The furniture in the room was also quite worn and there were too few outlets for charging electronics. For the price, it was just a terrible room. The only positives are the location (if you like the hustle and bustle of Times Square) and the coffee shop next door. Never again!

I travelled to NYC with my 2 adult daughters April 25 - 29/12. I needed one room with 2 beds and asked for a renovated room when I booked. The website said it would be a room with 2 queens so I was very pleasantly surprised when we got a large room with 2 king beds. I don't know if this was a renovated room but from the other comments here I am assuming it was. The bathroom was very small but clean and we had lots of hot water. We did hear very loud, strange noises the first night (assuming was pipes from other comments here) and we would have complained had it happened again but we never heard any other noises after the first night. The location was excellent, we heard very little street noise despite the proximity to Times Square and the black out curtains took care of the lights. We didn't have a lot of interaction with the staff but when we did everyone was most pleasant. The hotel's lobby has obviously had the most of the renovations as the hallways upstairs were tired and worn but that did not detract from our experience - great value, great location, felt very secure as 3 women staying here. I would stay here again.

Room Tip: We stayed on the 10th floor, renovated room with king beds - ask for renovated room when reserving.

The location of this hotel is very convenient and the price is much less than immediately surrounding hotels. However, we also experienced the loud banging sound in the pipes that kept us awake for most of our first night. The air conditioner did not cool the room--thank goodness the windows opened (although that led to issues with street noise). We came back to the room the second day to find a stained mattress propped in the hallway. It was still there the next morning.

The overall room just seemed a bit dingy and old and the dark carpet showed evidence of staining. This is the first place I've ever been where I was scared to walk around without shoes on. The beds were not super comfortable, but not un-sleepable. The linens were obviously old. I did not check too closely for cleanliness because I figured that "ignorance is bliss" in that situation.

Our shower--which seemed to be an issue with other reviewers--worked fine. On the last day I noticed what seemed to be dried toothpaste on the ceiling??? Not sure what to think about that one since we brushed our teeth at the sink.

Also, do not use the transportation desk services!!! The shuttle that they arranged for us from JFK to the hotel was horrible and since they are a "separate company" the hotel refused to acknowledge responsibility even though they promote the services on their website.

I sent feedback to the hotel and the Guest Relations person who response expressed appropriate embarrassment, but refused my request for a refund. All I was offered was 20% off on a future stay and the vague promise that they would "try their very best" to put us in an upgraded room.

There are plenty of other hotels in NYC and I am not willing to take my chances on this one again.

Room Tip: If you still insist on staying here after reading these reviews, make sure you get one of their alre...

Let us apologize for the issues you had at our hotel recently. Let us also reassure you that we are constantly updating the facility to provide excellent accommodations and service for our guests. Since we are currently in the renovating process, the water and heat systems have been affected as they are being upgraded as well. This has caused some of the noise issues for which we are deeply sorry. We welcome any suggestions to further improve our service. At least the price was right for you so thank you and hope you give us another opportunity to better serve you. Our Signature rooms are ready, and maybe you will consider one of them as they have been completely renovated.

My friend and i went to NYC for a fun girls trip. It was the perfect location and walking distance within all the main NYC attractions (including Broadway theaters). We were on a budget so it was nice that there was an inexpensive sandwich shop right next to the hotel to buy breakfast food, sandwiches and snacks. I also felt safe having security in the hotel. The only downside was that the rooms were pretty small, but not a big deal since we were gone the whole day, and I think the pipes were getting old so we heard pipes throughout the night which sounded like someone was running water the whole time. The hotel is not extremely fancy nonetheless it is adequate enough if you want to see all the sites and be in an accessible location.

We thank you for your courteous comment and rating. We indeed do have the advantage of being in a great location, in the heart of almost everything. Our rooms do vary in size due to the layout of the hotel. Please consider reserving a deluxe room or one of our suites for your next visit. We have also launched our new 'Signature' rooms and suites, which are fabulous. We look forward to serving you on your next visit to New York City.

I'm a 40-something who visited New York City for a 3-day weekend.with my sister and mother. We wanted to be near the Theatre District because we planned to see 2 shows, and my mom has a hard time walking even short distances. We also wanted to stay near Times Square so we could have easy access to all the sites every tourist wants to see.

What a great choice! This hotel was a half-block from the discount ticket booth on Times Square, and we walked out of the back door and into the Richard Rogers Theatre, where we had tickets to see Porgy & Bess. The venue for our off-Broadway show, Sistas (which was GREAT!), was just 1.5 blocks away.

This is an older hotel, but we are three educators (high school and college), and it was fine for our standards. We had a small suite, which featured a bathroom, sitting room with dining area, and queen-sized bedroom. There was an odd hallway that had a second door which didn't make much sense, but I'm guessing that it was the remnants of a renovation.

The rooms were nice, but the staff was the standout. They were friendly and efficient, and the security was diligent in ensuring only guests had access to the elevators. The concierge offered wonderful recommendations for dinner each night and gave excellent directions. We had a ball, and I'd definitely stay here again.

By the way, don't waste time with the discount ticket booth if you want to catch a play. Register for free on www.playbill.com (this company prints the free playbills you receive at the theaters) about a month or so before your trip. The site sends daily email alerts with discounts that are equal to or better than anything you'll get waiting in line at the booth.

Room Tip: The hotel is fairly quiet because it's on a side street, but the advice received elsewhere in th...
