IT is a really good solution for "low budget" traveller, for NYC it could be considered cheap. the position it is really good, mid Manhattan, nearby Union Sq, but in a secondary street, it results also a good place for rest..not so much noise. the room was internal, there was no view, but the space between the two adiacent building, but who cares, the view it is outside! the bathroom is common, but was always clean, also in the nights, I think there is somebody dedicate 24/7. on the other hand nobody enter in the room room for clean it, I stay only 4 days and I don't know if for longer stay they will come and clean, but I suppose so, and in any case they are so kind that if you ask, maybe they will do it . in case..I would come back

I put right in the title that you don't get your own bathroom, because I think that's the only reason people might have a problem with this hotel---if they arrive there not knowing they'll be sharing the bathrooms with the entire floor.

It's clean, kind of funky (that's good), and very cheap for New York City. I believe I paid about $120/night... less than half what I would have paid at any other hotel with such good reviews in the area.

I do recommend bringing a pair of flip flops or shower shoes, just because you are sharing the facilities. However, they were clean and I never had any problem finding them vacant. I'd stay here again without hesitation.

This hotel has been updated without losing any of its charm. The bed was very comfortable, and there was little, if any, noise. It was spotless, too! The desk clerks were friendly and helpful. I would DEFINITELY stay here again!

Room Tip: Just be aware that the bathrooms are shared, and down the hall. They were absolutely spotless, whic...

Hotel 17 is the perfect choice if you´re going to visit New York. Cheap, quiet neighborhood and walking distance to almost everything. Close to Union Square where you can eat your breakfast etc. Old fashioned style, clean rooms and helpful staff. The bathrooms are just outside your door so it is almost as you have a bathroom of your own. We stayed in room 601 and it was not even a small room as I thought it would be. The room had a sink, hairdryer, tv and a safe.

LOCATION
Hotel 17 is located just about 3-4 blocks from the nearest subway station at Union Square. The lines that run through there are also great for taking you directly to Times Square and other popular destinations without transfers. So great location in a nice neighborhood with PLENTY OF GOOD EATS. Just head on over to St. Marks Street and 1st Avenue and there are a bunch of cool restaurants and stores.

HOTEL
The hotel was nice and clean. Not gonna lie, it did look a little spooky with its Victorian decor and dim hallway lighting but it's really not that scary at all and there are plenty of other tourists. We had no disturbances so I'm assuming the walls are thick enough. Bathrooms are kept quite clean considering it's shared. I haven't had serious problems getting to the bathroom. If it's occupied I could just go across the floor and most likely it'll be vacant. The service is great and there's constant AC, a security box in your room, and a sink (which I found very convenient). I drank most of my water from the tap. Apparently NY tapwater has rave reviews and it tasted fun and clean to me.

All in all, a great budget hotel in a great location that can take you anywhere, and is also located near very delicious non-touristy restaurants. I'd come back!
