Close to Central Park,(two blocks)Times Square and Theaters. Easy to drive to. Staff very helpful and professional. Bed was very comfortable and room very spacious and clean. Bathroom somewhat dated and need of a renovation.

Room Tip: We were in the back on the 11 th floor and so it was nice and quiet.

Nice location close to Central Park, Broadway and metro stations. Room was very large with two large closets and huge beds. However it was quite shabby, especially the carpets, causing some allergic reactions. The room was in floor 17 and facing the inner yard so it was very peacefull. When we printed out some tickets bought from internet to the printer in the reception, our printouts were given to some other person. Luckily he was still sitting in the lobby. The receptionist just shrugged...

We booked the Salisbury for our week in New York. On arrival check in was very efficient and although we had booked a King size bed suite this was not available but we were given a huge twin bed suite on the 10th floor.Plenty of space to relax after a day sightseeing especially when you are in the room for 7 nights it was a real home from home. Very clean and comfortable. Metro stations close by as is Times Square and Central Park. Nice deli for breakfast close by which is better than the continental buffet in the hotel. The deli is also good for take aways. Angelos Pizza restaurant is very close and offers a good range of Italian food. We would most definitely book with the Salisbury again when visiting New York.

The biggest challenge facing families of 5 or more on vacation is the hotel situation : most hotels, due to fire codes, will only host a maximum of 4 people in one room. This forces families with 3 kids or more to choose between a suite and shelling out major coin, or two double rooms which end up being just about as expensive. A choice between Plague or Cholera. Combine that in a high cost accommodation city like NY, and many are tempted to stay in Jersey or otherwise outside the city.

I stumbled onto the Salisbury Hotel when searching for hotels a few years ago and highly recommend it. You get a suite for about the same cost as a large single or small double in other parts of the city. And the location, you can't beat it one block south of Central Park in Manhattan.

Reserve early though and get a one bedroom double (two double beds in a bedroom), and the adjoining living area also has a fold out sofa for 2. Perfect for families with 3 or 4 kids. The hotel used to be an apartment complex, and you still see the doorbells on the outside of the rooms. A small kitchennette completes the features and allows you to heat up a sandwich in a microwave and the small fridge to keep you water and Cokes cold. What more do you need ?

Now, this isn't the most perfect of places, the air conditioner can be noisy (window mounted), the view might be of the interior courtyard of the skyscraper next door and forget the business center ; this really isn't set up for business travellers although I've stayed here for business because of the value and location. Internet access unreasonably high, but hey ; go across the street in the am to the local Starbucks and get online for free. Plus a cofféé and danish...

Also only 2 elevators for beaucoup rooms, so plan on waiting for that. But all in all, a damn good value for NYC, we're staying there again this summer. Helpful staff, especially the bellhops ; give 'em a break and don't forget to tip. Their help is worth it. Reserve early though, up to 9 months if you want to take advantage of decent deals, as the prices will go up as the year goes on...

Room Tip: Reserve early ; not a secret anymore

The Salisbury Hotel was a fabulous choice for our Girl's weekend getaway! We had a HUGE suite with plenty of closet space (can't say that very often about a NYC hotel). We were in walking distance of Central Park, Times Square, 5th Ave shopping and theater district. The Russian tea room is just across the street. In an older building so the walls and floors are so well-built that you cannot hear others walking or talking or TV's. In-room coffee maker and refrigerator are a great convenience. Place is a bit older and starting to look a little worn, but it's clean and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Our room was clean and we had absolutely no complaints, especially at such a good price! We will definitely stay there again on our next visit to NYC!
