“Great Location”
Reviewed 25 June 2012

Hotel is in a great position for Central Park, Hell's Kitchen & the underground. Lots of Starbucks all round the hotel ideal for breakfast or afternoon coffee. Wifi actually worked well in the room. Hotel itself is a bit worn but is about to undergo a refurb. No real complaints.

Room Tip: Roof pool is in the South building.

I liked that it was easy to drive to this hotel from the Lincoln Tunnel and that it was in the "Hell's Kitchen" area of Manhattan. I didn't like the smell fo the lobby (it smelled like they were trying to cover up a bad odor with air freshener!) and that they charged you for storing your luggage before you were checked in.

Dear Linda K,

Thank you for writing a review about your recent stay with us. We work very hard to ensure our facilities and service are superior and we strive to be the best Holiday Inn around. We appreciate your nice comment regarding our location.

However, It sounds like we fell below your expectations regarding the smell in the lobby as well as the policy on luggage storage. We take all reviews positive and negative very seriously, and your feedback will help us improve for our next guest or your next visit.

Sincerely,

Orlando A.

we spent 4 nights at this hotel. the room was as expected, clean and fresh towels daily etc., and decent value for money. Its within walking distance to central park and times square, and really near the A train coming from JFK which helps.
There were some reservation problems we had on the trip, but the manager really went out his way to help us out which was really gr8 service (ask for Nathan if you can)
the pool on the roof is a nice touch -

I guess by NYC standards its good value. Sure close to many eating places and only 2 blocks from Broadway & Central Park. Walking distance too to Times Square. Even though rooms are 'smoke free' i'm sure I could smell it in the curtains in the room. Bathroom was quite small compared to other hotels.Would have considered giving it 4 stars but for the fact there was no fridge in the room. You think that paying $350+ per night they could afford a small bar fridge!

I have to admit, I had some initial doubts about staying here. When my business associate in NYC learned that I was staying there, he exclaimed, “Oh no, I hear that place is a dump!” As it turns out, I actually enjoyed my stay. While certainly not a luxury property, it is a well-maintained hotel with an efficient staff. My room was spacious, the bed was comfortable, and everything in the room worked as it was supposed to.

If you’re travelling on business (as I was), you should expect to be among lots of tourists here. Given that it’s a Holiday Inn with reasonable (for NYC) rates, this seems to be a popular destination for tour groups.

The location is excellent – it’s within easy walking distance of Central Park, Lincoln Center, the Time Warner Center, Carnegie Hall and the Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood (and its many restaurants). There are plenty of places to eat around the area, from take-out to fine dining.

The hotel is certainly not perfect; the furniture and room fixtures are a little dated, and the hallways could use an updating as well. On the other hand, there were signs around the hotel announcing upcoming upgrades, including the installation of flat panel televisions. The biggest downside I noticed was the elevators – they were slow, creaky, shaky and frankly a little scary.

Still, if you’re looking for a good value near a lot of New York City attractions, you should consider this property.
