Room was a bit small, and the hotel is very impersonal. Wouldn't recommend, although the concierge was very helpful.

The Kitano is a terrific hotel on all fronts - location, amenities, staff. The attention to detail is exceptional - we pulled up, they took the luggage and the car, made check in a breeze (we had gotten a seriously discounted rate online) and the room was spacious (really! even though it's NYC), well appointed (fine glassware, great toiletries, towels and robes). Diners and fine dining all within an easy walk and no tourists in sight.

A regular stop for me when in NYC.
Have not stayed at the hotel, but while commuting to NYC for work would regularly visit the Jazz sessions at the Kitano on either Wed or Thu nights. Used to be $15 minimum but hear they have added a $10 cover + $15 min for Wed and Thu nights... higher on weekend nights.
After the jazz, you can walk up three blocks to Grand Central Station and have a drink at the Campbell Apartment...

Perfet hotel downtown in NY. Close to Times Square (10 minutes walking) and the Central Station (5 mnts). Japanese style. Very clean with large bedrooms. Kind people working there support you for everything. I booked by internet and it's not rare to find special low prices (I saved 50% !!!!). Next time in NY: same hotel, for sure.

In the City that Never Sleeps, the Kitano is as good a place to get settled in as any. The rooms are on the small side, but all well-appointed. This is the kind of hotel that is well kept-up but does not make any extra effort to be lavish. That said, there's lots of wood and lots of pillows. The ambiance is one of serenity even in the middle of bustling midtown Manhattan (although it is much more chill in the Murray Hill area than a few blocks off to the west in the Times Square area). The hotel is impeccably clean, inside and out, another feature that is not exactly common in a city like New York. All in all, the peace and tranquility of the hotel, not to mention its location, make it well worth a stay.

Room Tip: Rooms that do not face Park Avenue are a little quieter (though you sacrifice views). If you want something more romantic, ask for a room with a view of the Empire State Building (and the views from the hotel are excellent)
