“There's no other place to stay!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 July 2012 via mobile

Staying at The Plaza and having your vacation address be central park and 5th avenue south is hopefully one of many. The location can't be beat. Whether shoppping on 5th ave or taking the subway to Times Square or to a Yankees game, you are in the heart of the city.

The food hall downstairs was outstanding. It's a luxuious yet reasonably priced grab-and-go style with many Parisian influences, but is worldy enough to include sushi and more

The rooms are the icing on the cake. Very spacious and the bathroom is the most opulent tile work that I've seen. The fixtures are 24 karat gold:). Be sure to call the butler to have him draw you a bath before you return because it's so large it takes about an hour to fill.

Don't forget about photos with Eloise! If you have a little girl or remember being one, splurge on the Eloise suite:).

There's no other place to stay and I look forward to returning sooner than later.

I have been staying at the plaza from 9th to 13th July and found the hotel OK in appearance although they could have more elevators for guests use. But that was not the issue at all. The bitter taste I have now is from the check-out. We checked out at about 10 AM and left the luggage in the room. We decided to have breakfast outside the hotel and went to the bell boy and asked him to get the luggage from the room until we get back. Then the surprise hit us when a guy called Eddie said he cannot get our luggage unless we wait in the lobby for them. When i told him that we are going for breakfast and we cannot wait because later we have a flight to catch , HE JUST TURNED HIS BACK ON US. We came back after 45 minutes and headed to the bell desk and when the guy saw us coming he left. Another guy , Joseph greeted us and went for our luggage and he was very nice. He has a problem with his hand and i had to help him with our 7 pieces of luggage as Mr. Wise-guy Eddie was chatting with the valet.
When my wife came down and i told her about the whole deal she told me that the same guy was rude to a lady in the elevator that was complaining about them not having a service elevator. She told him that even in her building she has a service elevator and then he told her "This is not your building" So, this is my experience in The Plaza, maybe the management will have any interest in it.

Room Tip: Chose a room far from elevators as otherwise you will get a lot of noise. Very small GYM.

I did not want to leave. I Love the plaza. The service is amazing. We had a suite and it was one of those experiences where you walk in the room and you feel like a little kid again. Giant chandelier, heated bathroom floors, big fluffy bed. Hooray! The hotel itself is beautiful and the location is unbeatable. At the time there was not much of a gym as it is currently being built but with central park across the street and 5th avenue a few steps away there are better ways to exercise. Check out the food hall. It was very good and the options were endless. If you have a chance to stay at the plaza take it, you will not regret it.

- we booked through New York luxury hotels (Magellan) which every time we book through we have a great experience.
-wifi was fast and good cell service (AT&T)

Stayed for 6 nights. Arrived from UK at approx 10.00pm to be told our room wasn't ready because of an air-con problem, not great when you've been travelling for 12 hours, however these things happen and weren't overly concerned. Ushered to the lobby and asked to wait. A complimentary drink would have been nice rather than the $128 bill for a couple of rounds of drinks while we waited over an hour. Eventually shown to our rooms which comprised an Edwardian Suite connected to a deluxe room. The accommodation was well appointed and perfect for our needs so no problem there. The next day only one of the rooms was made up when we were out. Guest services called to apologise for the delay on check-in and I reported the problem with making up room, and an issue with the plumbing (no pressure in taps and air-lock in shower making a terrible noise), the minibars in both rooms were empty and no newspaper. To be fair these issues were rectified within 24 hrs.

There was a Saudi prince and entourage staying at the hotel during our stay and areas of the Champagne Bar and Rose Club were permanently roped off meaning that on several occasions there was nowhere to even sit and have a drink. Money talks I guess. On 4th July there was nowhere open to eat in the hotel after 6.00pm other than bar snacks at the Rose Club bar.

Our biggest gripe was on departure. Our flight was at 11.00pm but had to check out at midday. I asked if we could extend in order to be able to shower and change before leaving the hotel at 8.00pm (especially given our problems at check-in) but got firmly told by a very officious receptionist no chance as the room was needed. This is fair enough but we were not even offered the use of a standard room even though I offered to pay. The best the receptionist and the duty manager could offer was to use the spa which closed at 5.00pm. So faced with no choice had to lug our suitcase up to the spa and change three hours before due to leave the hotel. Also the same receptionist insisted that I settled the bill at 12.00 even though I was going to be at the hotel for another 8 hours and would be charging more drinks etc...the insinuation being that we were going to do a runner even though the rooms were pre-paid.

This might all sound a bit pedantic but given thet we spent about $12,000 for 6 nights we would expect to be treated better than this. Nothing major but a lot of small imperfections leaves a bad taste. The bottom line is that when we go back to New York, we will not stay in the Plaza.

Pros; good location, Concierge service vey helpful as were the bellhops and good service in the Rose Bar. Well appointed and spacious bedrooms.

Cons; Unhelpful reception staff, no dining options for dinner (the Oak Room is currently closed), slow Breakfast service in the Palm court and slow service in the Champagne lobby bar. No tea/coffee facilities in the rooms. No free wi-fi other than the iPad in the room.

My daughter and I always stay at The Plaza during our yearly pilgrimage from Australia. Everything positive that has already been said about this hotel I completely agree with, but I would like to focus on the concierge team in this review. Our last trip to NYC coincided with the midnight release of the final Harry Potter movie. My daughter is a huge fan and as a birthday surprise I arranged through The Plaza concierge team for my daughter to attend the midnight screening and the after party (extremely hard tickets to come by any other way). The team were able to get both the screening tickets and a ticket to the after party (almost impossible to get!). Unfortunately, the after party ticket fell through, but through no fault whatsoever of The Plaza concierge team or their contact. When I told them the next day how sad my daughter was at missing out on the after party, they (and their contact who arranged the tickets) were so devastated for my daughter that they did everything they could to make her feel better, huge flower arrangement sent to our room, free tickets to Book of Mormon, etc,. I cannot imagine any other team going to such lengths to cheer up an Aussie teenager!. But then the icing on the cake...on our last night in NYC they arranged a meet and greet between my daughter and Daniel Radcliffe!! I have added a photo of their meeting. Amazing hotel, amazing staff, BEST concierge team EVER!!
