“wknd in Jan”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 April 2012

Booked last minute for a wknd getaway, and I was a bit nervous after so many of the negative reviews. We ended up having a fantastic time and absolutely loved our stay. The location, as mentioned by all, is excellent. Since it was January and not a lot of tourists, we ended up being upgraded to a room with a king size bed and fantastic view of NY, which was much appreciated give the fantastic deal we received in the first place. The rooms are smallish, yes, but for us it was perfect, and the bed was incredibly comfortable. I found the bathroom to be very cute and extremely well appointed given the size; however, I can definitely see how you might have trouble if you were a large person. The robes and L'Occitane products were a nice touch. We found everyone to be helpful and courteous, and had a very quick check in/check out. We did not find the hotel to be dingy/dirty/noisy at all and our room looked new and modern. Then again- we did get upgraded and it was during the slow season, which i'm sure helped our experience.

We did decide to go check out the club on the roof, just to see what it was like and check out the view. When I mentioned we were hotel guests we didn't have to wait in line and were allowed right up. If I were 21 again I’m sure it would be a blast! :) The view from our room was just as good; but I would love to see how it looks in the summer when it’s all opened up.

This is our second time at the Empire and it is great location for Manhattan; near Lincoln Center, Central Park and Columbus Circle with access to several subway stops. The standard rooms are small but the beds are comfortable and the amenities (L'Occitane products) very nice for the price. I would suggest asking for a room away from the elevators as they tend to be noisier. The downstairs bar is good for a quick cocktail. Can't comment about food or much of anything else except the staff is a bit standoffish and doesn't go out of their way to help except the doorman/bellhops, but this is a very busy hotel with lots of people going in and out all the time.

Room Tip: Away from elevators

I took my husband to NYC for his birthday and we had the best time. The Empire hotel was a very positive contributor to our fabulous weekend! The Empire Hotel is in a great location. So close to central park and right across the street from Lincoln Center. The bed was so soft and comfortable, the room was well kept and clean. The bathroom is small but you certainly have enough room to do what you need to. The hotel restaurant is good, but pricey. With so many restaurant options around why eat there, go explore! We really enjoyed the rooftop bar as well as the bar area in the lobby. All the staff we had contact with were pleasant and friendly very willing to answer any questions we had.

The location is the best part of this hotel. Being off Central Park by a block or so, and central in Manhattan is so convenient. The interior Standard Queen Room, more like a full size bed was quiet, with no view, bathroom a little odd, not particularly well maintained. Front desk staff not very friendly or particularly accommodating, but great doorman/bellmen. Late nights here are for the "clubbing" set, so be prepared for a lively scene upon your return from your evening activities. Restaurants and coffee shops right in neighborhood are great. Very walkable location-great for returning from the Broadway theaters, when you cannot even think about finding a taxi in the mass of humanity exiting Times Square at the same time. Priceline bid including upper West Side made this hotel stay a little better than the published rates would.

Great hotel and location. Close to Central Park and upper West Side shops and bars. Room rate included parking which was convenient. Typical small city size room but was comfortable. Would have liked to take advantage of the roof deck since it was such a nice Thursday night but was told it was closed for a private party. First floor bar was small but comfortable. Would definitely stay again.
