“Good location, close to Central Park and Times Square”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 June 2012

Very central, on 53rd and 6th, just a few minutes walk from Times Square, and Central Park. Across the street is Radio City Music Hall.

Huge lobby area with different shops and a restaurant, bar and Starbucks. Two sets of elevators, with one for only the highest floors, that made the trip to 40th floor very quickly. Our Executive room was located on the 40th floor. It had two queen beds, but was nothing special. When we arrived the fridge contained food from the previous guests, which made the room feel not very clean. The bathroom was small but OK, with nice amenities.

The Executive lounge offered complimentary breakfast with bagels, cream cheese, preserves, juice and hot drinks, cereals and pastries. We enjoyed the fresh strawberries and bluberries every morning. The lounge is on the 44th floor, with great views -and was very busy. Coffee and tea was served throughout the day, cookies at lunchtime and canapees between 5 and 7 PM. Non-alcoholic drinks were served free of charge from the bar from around 3PM (?) but alcoholic beverages were quite expensive.

Service was good, but the first morning I was approached by an employee that offered me a map of New York and then tried to convince me to buy timeshare in The Hilton Club. It was obviously not enough for them that I had chosen a Hilton hotel - they wanted more, and I found this rather annoying.

There vere always many cabs outside the hotel, so never a problem to get one.

Room Tip: I would pick an executive room for the lounge or high floors- but not for the room itself. It was no...

This huge hotel is centrally located on manhattan, between two subway stops, and a 'signature' property for the chain. The hotel has finished refurbishing all of its rooms which are small but comfortable. There are no coffee machines or fridges in the room. The bathrooms are tiny with just a shower and have no make-up mirrors. The walls are pretty thin but the place is generally quiet and professional. On all accounts, the service was helpful and efficient. While the place won't "wow" you, it is good overall and will create no issues during your stay in NYC.

Room Tip: The hotel is surrounded by tall buildings so there are no great views of the city here.

I was very disappointed with my recent stay. Although the hotel was in a great location with easy access to explore NYC and the rooms were comfortable and clean, there was no tea of coffee making facilities, you had to pay $15 to use the gym which is one of the reasons I booked this hotel and the room was just mediocore. The lobby was crowded and we had to wait for ages to check in and the toilets in the lobby area were dirty. Beware there is a $3.50 charge to hold luggage per item. I stayed in another hotel for half the price in DC (I am aware NYC is expensive in comparision to other cities) which was far better. This is the first time I booked into a Hilton hotel, I clearly had better expectations but I will not be booking into another very disappointed.

The Wikipedia entry for the Hilton New York says it is the largest hotel in Manhattan. Easy to believe on a spring weekend when the lobby looks like Times Square and the wait for guest elevators is as long as the rush hour line at Starbucks. Even so, once in our 6th floor room we could hardly have been more comfortable and what a relief to discover absolute quiet, even that close to the bumper-to-bumper traffic below. Room was large and handsomely decorated, allowing for the now-ubiquitous plastic desk chair one finds in almost every mid-to-upscale business-type hotel (the chair is almost as comfortable to sit in as it is ugly to look at from anywhere else). As others note, the 53rd Street and 6th Avenue (a.k.a. Avenue of the Americas) location could hardly be better for getting to scores of NYC sites on foot in just a few minutes: theaters, restaurants, Central Park, the Museum of Modern Art, Fifth Avenue shopping, Radio City Music Hall, etc., etc., all within a few short blocks. During our stay, lobby renovations were underway and the hotel coffee shop opened only for breakfast. No big deal. What was a big deal, however, was that when I booked one of the deciding attractions was that guest rooms included coffee makers. When we arrived, we discovered that Hilton has recently removed all guest-room mini-bars and coffee-makers, a decision one suspects refelects the kind of nickel-and-diming profit taking airlines have led with their added fees for things that used to be 'complimentary.' For those unwilling to pay room service prices and wait for their cold morning coffee to arrive, the alternative is to bring it in from one of the nearby take-out shops, not what one might prefer doing as part of a holiday.

Better than average Hilton. This location was undergoing a major renovation last few years and now is in great shape. It's tough to get a cab at dinnertime so recommend you take a short walk and hail one; its quicker. Holidays are great in New York as everyone is putting the currency in play at this time of year. The hotel service is professional and attentive. Always great restaurant choices nearby (but this can be said of most locations in NY especially in mid-town. The rooms are cozy, clean, and secure. As with my past reviews chain hotel windows mostly don't open so rooms can get stuffy and dry. Run a hot shower and fill the tub to humidfy the room and get a great nights sleep. Tip: get a room on upper floor if you want peace and quiet. Between the fire trucks and garbage trucks bangin' around its a smart request if you can get it. The concierge level amenities need an upgrade though. Not much by way of breakfast selection or seating for this size of hotel. Will stay here again.

Room Tip: Get rooms on higher floors.
