We had limited time to go to the observation deck of a building in New York due to weather and show plans, and we chose this one. It was closer to our hotel, but more importantly, I wanted to be able to see the Empire State building more than I wanted to go up in it. Be prepared, it takes a bit to actually make it all the way up with the crowds and security. And it isn't cheap, but if you are in NY, I wouldn't not do it because of the price. There are three levels of viewing, with an open top floor. The top floor is smaller and much more crowded when we were there, but the views are great all around. We went up about 7:00 pm (April 20), so we had some sunlight and the begining of night. I would highly recommend going up for the view.

On a whim, we joined the line and bought the general admission tickets for the observation deck. It was around $26 a person. There were lots of other combination tickets (tour of the building, etc.) but we stuck to the basic. With the basic ticket you just hop on the elevator and you are on your own.

Well, this was such a great surprise. It was not too busy, the deck area includes a first level that is glassed in, a second level which is largely outside and a top level that is the very top indeed. And the views from each are incredible. The top level, which is up a short flight of stairs is essentially the roof - so the view is 360 degrees and nothing short of impressive. Because there are so many spaces, there is always a spot for a photograph without bumping into people - or simple a long moment of contemplation looking at all the various buildings. The general admission ticket also comes with a map of the buildings that identify the more significant structures.

But the best part certainly is the southern view of Manhattan with the Empire State Building in the middle. Sure it might be a very modest few floors taller - but you can't' see it.... from it! The best view absolutely is from Top of the Rock.

Lastly, all the associates seemed really professional. They were polite, in abundance and kept everything smooth. Even the bathrooms, a funny elevator flight down two floors, were clean and well kept.

Skip the Empire State and come here - and have your romantic proposal, your morning contemplation or just family tour from this site with The Empire State in the back ground and you will not go wrong.

The whole place was really good. You can see empire state building really well and see for miles the view is breathtaking we did a coach trip which included tickets for the rock which was good value. The ice rink was still outside and the gardens had a giant bunny made out of a bush as it was easter -very clever a place not to be missed
