We went here to celebrate my mother's birthday, and it definitely lived up to it's reputation. Although it is not cool or chic eating here, is like traveling back in time to the glory days of fine dining in new york city. The dover sol was excellent and the soufflé was amazing. Two of my friends don't like chocolate and they devoured it. I recommend this restaurant for a special occasion. Also the flowers in the restaurant are incredible. And apparently the owner hand picks them from his greenhouse and does the arrangements himself on mondays and sundays.

This was our second time dining at La Grenouille and it was fabulous. We were lucky enough to secure a short-notice reservation and had an excellent table. This is really the last of the old school classic French restaurants in New York. The wait staff was gracious, professional and all spoke French. Perhaps what was the biggest surprise, was the seasonal menu. The use of spring peas & rhubarb (not together) prepared in classic French ways was wonderful.
Truly a wonderful way to spend the evening! Cannot wait to return.

Do not expect innovative or modern cuisine nor a trendy atmosphere. Everything is very traditional and old fashion here, but in a good way. The waiters speak French among themselves. The room is always filled with flowers. The cheese and the chocolate souffles are both excellent. This place has remained solidly consistent for about 60 years. Impressive.

Just had a lovely lunch. We arrived at 12:05 and were seated immediately the aroma from all of the beautiful flowers was a lovely introduction to a restaurant noted for its flowers and it did not disappoint. We started the lunch with a nice bottle of champagne and the Fisher Island oysters which were briny and plump. For the next course the captain suggested that we split the Wild mushroom risotto which was creamy and just the tiniest bit al dente. We then each had the Dover sole with the hot mustard sauce which was just heavenly. For dessert I knew I wanted a souffle and was disappointed not to see the caramel one on the menu the captain immediately said that it would not be a problem to prepare one and it was perfection. The dining room was relatively empty when we arrived by the time we were into our first glass of champagne the room was buzzing with energy and the sounds of half a dozen languages being spoken in the room. It is just so nice to go to a restaurant where every detail is handled with discreet and unobtrusive service.

I've been wanting to try La Grenouille for a long time and finally got to have lunch there last week. It is like taking a day trip to Paris. The room is absolutely gorgeous with fresh flowers everywhere. The menu is classic French. I chose a special- Red snapper prepared in a bag and opened table side. When the server sliced open that bag the entire room filled with the wonderful aroma of herbs and everyone around me went aaah...
Every course was wonderful. I had sweetbreads as an appetizer and they would have made a fine ,main course as well. The apple tart for desert was very nice. The wine selection is excellent.
Service was formal but friendly and helpful.
This is a very special restaurant even by NYC standards and you will pay for it. For a splurge - you cannot go wrong here. I will be back.
