“Very nice”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 April 2012

This was our first trip to NY so my wife and I wanted to stay somewhere central. The Affinia Dumont is in a great location in Midtown and it is very close to the 6 line subway. We requested a room with a view and we were given a room on the 35th floor with absolutely stunning views of the Chrysler Building and other Midtown sights. The room was very large (by any standards, not just NYC) and we had a kitchen. The bed was extremely comfortable and we had great sleeps for our entire 6-night stay.

The hotel was clean, relatively affordable for NYC, well located and the staff were all very helpful. My one complaint is the lack of free wi-fi in the rooms. We live in a time when free wi-fi is incredibly easy to provide and asking $14 per day is absurd. I have stayed in hotels far below the Affinia Dumont's quality and free wi-fi is the norm.

When I return to New York I would not likely stay in Midtown again, instead going to Greenwich Village or SoHo, but that is purely a personal choice. As far as Midtown hotels go, the Affinia Dumont is very nice and the views alone make it worthwhile.

Check in and out was fast and friendly. The room was so HUGE but oddly the bathroom was small given the size of the rest of the place. My daughters couldn't brush their teeth at the same time. Valet Parking was pricy but I guess not usual for NYC. The front desk was so kind- they sent up a complimentary cupcake because we were there for my daughter's 5th birthday. The rooms were quiet, the beds were comfy. They had little brownie treats and hangover kits for free at "Comfort Hour". The only downside to the whole stay was the free Wii didn't work even after someone came to look at it. The views were incredible- we faced out to the river.

My friend and I decided to have a girls weekend in the Big Apple. The hotel was conveniently located, just minutes from the Empire State Building. Great location, easy access to the train. Staff was very nice and helpful. The room was very clean with Philosophy toiletries! Would highly recommend.

My wife and I booked a Skyview Jr Suite to celebrate her 50th birthday on April 14th. We arrived at the hotel early and they were nice enough to store our bags while the room was prepared and we went out for lunch. The lobby was very nice and clean and the bellhop and check-in staff seemed friendly.

Unfortuantely at lunch my wife began to feel ill. We went back to the hotel and checked in around 3:30. The room we had was on the 32nd floor and was fantastic. Spotlessly clean, nice updated furnishings, and a view to die for. My wifes sickness got worse and after a few terrible hours we made the hard choice to head for home. Nobody wants to be stuck in a hotel room while getting sick.

Here's where my only complaint comes in. We made our way to reception to check out, after only two hours in the room, and the only comment the clerk made was "I can't give you a receipt, your rate hasn't been entered into the computer yet". No concern whatsoever. Not even a question as to why you would check in to a $350/night room and only stay two hours. We knew and fully understood that this was our problem, not the hotels, and that we were fully responsible for the cost of the room. But, it would have been nice to hear a little concern from the front desk staff. Maybe even offer to get a cab for us?

Will this make us not go back, probably not because everything else was great.

Superb stay - just 3 blocks from Empire state.
We asked on arrival for a room with a view- the 36th floor gave this- wonderful views over lower Manhattan. Comfy bed with wonderful pillows!, kitchen area to store your wine or beer! Contemporary design- clean and modern.
Friendly staff, good location. Would recommend a stay here and would come back again.

Room Tip: Ask for a good view- it was worth the 30 seconds to arrive by lift!
