This hotel was very comfortable and quiet. The mattress was perfect and the hotel had just the right amount of luxury to make our trip feel special and romantic. Fairly simple and minimalist but with high-end furnishings and a deep soaking tub. Our room was a junior suite with plenty of space, on a higher floor with virtually no noise. Very convenient to Broadway and attentive service.

Room Tip: Higher floor was very quiet.

I stayed here for 3 nights while I was at a convention at Javits Center. The hotel is about 2 or 3 blocks from Times Square so yes it was very central, however it was a ride to the Javits center.

The hotel is very nice and the smaller lobby size mase it feel like a boutique hotel. This is a french chain so the front desk greets you in French, i thought this was a nice touch.

The rooms are spacious and very comfortable. The bed was great, a huge duvet and feather bed kept me very comfy and warm.

My only gripe is that the bar closes at midnight, very early for a city that never sleeps.

I recommend this hotel for business travel.

This is a fantastic hotel. I've stayed three times in the past three months, and the experience has been consistently excellent. The location is central, if a bit too close to Times Square for my taste. Birdland is walking distance, which is great if you're a jazz fan. There's also an excellent coffe shop (Gregory's) right across the street.

The lobby is really nice, feels like a chic and intimate private club. Check in has always been smooth, the service gracious. Elevators are plenty and fast - this is not always the case in Manhattan hotels. The rooms are lovely. Spacious, modern, and elegantly furnished. I stay in the junior suites, which have a really nice layout, including a huge walk-in closet. The hotel is well constructed and there's virtually no noise from the street, adjoining rooms, or the hallway. Beds are extremely comfortable. Bathrooms are gorgeous, with deep soaking tubs, lush Frette towels and top-shelf Hermes toiletries.

Excellent 24 hour room service with reasonable prices (considering it's Manhattan) and great food. They do offer free coffee in the morning in the lounge area just above the restaurant. But I typically run across the street to Gregory's. The breakfast is totally over the top, and includes a basket filled with french pastries PLUS whatever entree you order. I'm not such a fan of the "personal french press" coffee service. I'd rather they drop this pretension and just give me some decent cafe filtre.

The staff for the most part is extremely cheerful and helpful and seems to be happy to work here. The sole exception is the front door staff, which tends to be dour and unfriendly.

The fitness center is decent. It's in the basement and feels a bit claustrophobic, but is reasonably well equipped. There are three or four computers in the lobby, along with a printer, available for free guest use. Wireless internet is also free, both in the rooms and the public areas (although they make you pay if you want a fast connection).

All in all, this is one of the nicer hotels I've ever stayed in, and my absolute "don't even think twice, just book it" choice in NYC right now.

I chose this hotel for 2 reasons, 1 was my previous good experience with Sofitel, Paris & other was the reviews about this property on TA. We had taken 2 rooms in this property & stayed for 4 nights. Overall experience was fair maybe because I had a very high expectations from them. i would start with the positives first:
1. Location is amazing. Important areas like Times square, Fifth Avenue, Grand central etc. are all within walking distance of 5-10 Mins.
2. The room that we opted was good. Size was perfect & overall feel was nice.
3. Food: we mostly ordered in-room dining, that too vegetarian dishes. Everything was nice.

Now i would come to the critical observations:
1. I failed to understand why everyone (staff members) in the hotel spoke french? Wether it was room service, front desk etc. everyone would start with french, showed difficulty in understanding english. I guess while Sofitel could be a French chain, but the people must always follow local language.
2. Concierge: at any point of time, the person at concierge was busy over the phone. It could be official, however, if the concierge's call load is so high, then why not place more people? There used to be a waiting of at least 3-4 mins. before an interaction could start with the person. Also since New York is a tourist place, so the concierge should be big & well equipped to handle any queries. For many things like cruise tickets etc., we were asked to approach the concerned company directly. Personally i feel this is ridiculous. Concierges are meant to facilitate things, else they shouldn't be created at the first place.
3. I had sent a mail on 26th March mentioning the reservation nos. for 2 rooms that we had booked in the hotel. My requests were to allot the room on the same floor & also with better views. Alas, both were not met. Despite of my reminder to the person at the time of checking-in, he said 'we are sold out.'

Thus, i would conclude by saying that New York has many many options. Lot of hotels have excellent locations but i don't know about their service levels. So if somebody is looking forward to overall nice experience, then i don't recommend this property.

Dear Guest,
Thank you for taking the time to tell us your experience in our hotel, we really appreciate it.
To reach a great guest experience is a must for us and at every Sofitel around the world, and we work very hard for it, we believe that having the chance to know what you have experienced is the best tool we can have to improve and like this reach our promises.
We regret that you didn’t appreciate our staff speaking French, is a brand policy and you will find it all over the world in any Sofitel. We will look carefully to your point regarding the concierge and we will take measures to correct it please accept our apologies for not being up to your expectations. We are very sorry that we could not provide you rooms with better views (you were at 21st Floor and we have 29th Floors) our hotel was fully booked at the time and there were no available rooms with better view that we could offer you. All of our guests’ requests are important to us, but we are limited by the number of rooms. I would suggest next time you book a suite where we guarantee the best view from our hotel, it is available in our site.

Sincerely,

Jorge Tito
